Bought this for my PC because it was lacking a disc drive, works perfectly well. Looks really good on my desk. The anodised aluminium finish makes it look very modern and the slot for the disc looks nicer than other external disc drives which open up.The cable is short but wasn't a problem for me, plus it was shown in the product details before I purchased.Arrived next day, in appropriate packaging.

(+) Slot eject is a really convenient feature.(+) For ripping CDs this is a quick and accurate drive.(+) Good value for money.(-) Loading the disk, spinning up to full speed and ejecting are all very noisy. In a regular office seriously noticeable.(-) As mentioned by another reviewer, the cable is fairly short.(-) It doesn't seem to support C2 error correction which could be an issue for ripping CDs with many scratches. I could not confirm this for 100% sure.

Very fragile - I ordered this for a client, tested it (successfully ripped a couple of CDs), then I wrapped it (very much better than original packaging) but it didn't survive the second shipping. My client only managed to get it to work once (by chance). Embarrassing and complete waste of money - the device and two lots of shipping. So I bought her the Apple Superdrive instead, which arrived quickly, worked immediately, and is still working several months on. My conclusion - I can't afford cheap peripherals. Always buy decent branded stuff, it works out cheaper in the long run... and sometimes even in the short run. Two stars not one only because it did work when it first arrived, and it was on re-shipping that it died -- but wrapped in half a ton of bubble wrap, that really shouldn't have been an issue. (And of course, I couldn't claim a refund.)

After buying this because i wanted to transfer some old photo's (wedding) from disc to my MacBook Pro and saw this as a very cost effective way to do so. I looked at USB3 but after reading the bottle neck is the read speed of the discs and not the speed of the USB connection. This looks very stylish and compliments my MacBook although if they produce a space grey one then I would be all over it!! The item works flawlessly and the item arrived well within the time scale. what we really nice was the company followed up the order by asking if everything was ok with the product and if hit had arrived on time. I would very much recommend the product and the merchant and will be buying from them again if the need arrises.On another note I have tried this with my windows computer and also worked well although I have an internal DVD drive for that anyway. I just thought I would try and see if it work

I didn't want or expect much. Just a basic reader/writer to do a few disc copies. This is a nice product. The finish matches my laptop perfectly. I like the clean design; no unnecessary text or styling. It's worked very well out of the box with no need to look for drivers. I like how the usb sits flush to the laptop body as opposed to leaving a small gap (sometimes it's the little things). And there's an 'invisible' button on the rear edge which you touch to eject the disc. Pretty clever, and in keeping with the 'keep it minimal' approach. I don't expect that sort of thinking on such affordable products so it's a nice surprise. Very happy.I've also found Emmaky pleasant to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

I was going to buy the Apple version of this product, but as funds are tight & I know I won't use this a huge amount, thought I'd try this cheaper version a try. It's a fantastic product & works exceptionally well, to say that I'm pleased with it would be an understatement! Do give this product a try & save yourself £££, rather than buying the over priced version.

I bought this because I wanted a CD reader that would work with my MacBook when plugged into a hub. I have an Apple Superdrive, but it requires more power than the USB Alex allows for, so won't work when plugged into a hub.This drive *does* work when plugged into a hub

Excellent product well packaged, works perfectly with my iMac which unfortunately had a failure with the internal SuperDrive. This unit looks like the equivalent Apple unit and performs equally as well. The soft buttons work as expected on screen, it doesn’t need additional power and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it to anyone, in fact I would purchase again.
