My first sicilian ABC book

What a treat to have all these words come to life. I tell my grandchildren stories about finding giant snails on my grandmother’s canna plants here in Texas. She spoke no English. We would go find her sitting on an overturned washtub under the fig tree snapping beans or shucking corn from the garden. “Grandma, a babbalucciu, a babbalucciu. She would walk over with us, hold the leaf in her hand tightly, and peel that babbalucciu off. Then, wiping it on her apron, she would SUCK IT OUT OF IT’S SHELL! Nothing could have been more entertaining to little kids than that, and we would squeal and laugh. In retrospect, she may have pretended, but I’m just now figuring that out, and I’m a Nonna myself. Thank you for creating this book. It will be my new baby gift for all babies born into the family.

My husband and I bought this for our daughters Sicilian nonna to read with her. Such a great little book to teach her some words from her Sicilian heritage!

Congratulations to the author for the idea and illustrations. it is a very welcome gift to give to children and a way to rediscover Sicilian traditions and above all the Sicilian language, unique in the world. A way to keep our roots alive even when we live thousands of kilometers away from home, from our Sicily.
