SavvyStor Chef'n 016847 dish rack plastic

I splashed out on the Dish Garden over 9 years ago because I liked the look of it and was fed-up with the lack of practicality of conventional washing up racks. It's pretty and makes me smile. Easy to clean, drains easily and, most importantly, holds all sorts of combinations of things (including awkward shapes) easily and securely. I usually put cups and glasses on the 'fence' around the edge. Some people have said it doesn't hold plates easily but that isn't the case. Like everything in life, you have to try various ways and you will find the one that works. Others have said that the draining spout falls out. Yes, it can do sometimes (mine's only done it twice in 9 years). You just have to take the time to clip it back in. I'm afraid we live in an "if it's not perfect 100% of the time I can't be bothered" world. This is the best washing-up rack I've ever had and still looks fabulous after nearly 10 years. Considering the amount of money I would have spent on other ones over these years, and the time it has saved me trying to pile washing-up precariously (my husband says my stacking up of loads of stuff on this thing is almost an art form) and the fact that it still looks new, it's well worth the price. And, as a former garden designer, it's an apt addition to my kitchen. I'd definitely buy a new one if I needed to - but I don't!

Having just installed a new kitchen I wanted a better dish drainer, one with an outlet drain rather than one that drips straight onto the draining board making a revolting mess, For the last umpteen years I have used standard stainless steel draining racks and I'm sick to death of wiping up the mess that accumulates under the drainer, and scrubbing the the edges of the draining channels on the draining board. In addition, I use a dish washer and wanted to leave more of the draining board surface free for stacking plates and rinsed items before transferring them to the dishwasher. I tried the the Joseph Joseph Extend and Connect dish drainers, and despite being a fan of Joseph Joseph products, I sent both back. Too many dirt traps and the instruction said they had to be washed by hand. I also read reviews about mould growing on them and being difficult to remove. Appearance valued more than function. I was dubious about this drainer as it is a brand I had never heard of before and I thought the rather "unusual" design might mean it was a bit of cheap and silly rubbish being sold at a relatively high price. Research indicated it was an US product, and of course, cheaper over there. I'm so glad I took the plunge and ordered the Dish Garden. I couldn't be more pleased. The designer has thought really carefully about the problems of stacking and draining kitchen items, and keeping the rack hygienic and clean. The drainer is a 13 inch circle with prongs for cups and jugs around the edges, and flattened spikes in the centre to help hold items in place. It is very versatile, large items like bread boards can poke through the gaps on the sides. The prongs on the edge are ideal for coffee mugs, small pans, the bread pan from my breadmaker etc. I'm not so happy putting long stemmed wine glasses on them as the curve of the glass makes them unstable although there are a few places where the juxtaposition of the internal spikes and the outer prongs does hold a wine glass perfectly. Fine for our normal two glasses, not so good for a set of six, but glasses can be drained in the main body. The ultimate test was can it hold my enormous and very heavy Le Creuset frying pan safely, and it passed with flying colours. On my stainless steel drainer it could only be propped lying almost flat, and I always worried that the non stick surface could be damaged by the metal, especially if somebody else was washing up and was less careful than I am.. The Dish Garden takes much better care of my precious pan. After using it for a couple of weeks I am impressed at the amount I can get hung, propped, and balanced securely on the drainer. Far more than my old classic flat dish rack. I'm not so sure it would work well for a large family with no dishwasher as you can't stack twenty odd plates in a neat row. The two cutlery cups, both green, can be positioned on any of the internal spikes. They have plenty of drainage holes and are held about half an inch above the base. They hold bread knives and large kitchen knives securely. The Dish Garden is lifted well clear of the surface underneath allowing a good airflow. There are five legs, each with a non slip silicone tip, making the drainer very stable. The height above my draining board is 1.25 inches near the spout and 2.5 inches at the back. The slope drains water extremely well. The green silicone spout can be left open to drain continuously or folded over so that water is held in the drainer. If I need to use the draining board for other jobs, the Dish Garden can be positioned so that it is only half on the draining board, or just the spout trickles into the sink or on to the draining board. The circular shape allows me to keep it to the back corner leaving easy access to the central taps, and room to stack rinsed plates before putting them into the dishwasher. The plastic is slightly softer and more flexible than the Joseph Joseph plastic, gentler on non stick surfaces, and feels a good quality. A touch of polythene? The whole drainer is a simple one piece moulding so there are no seams or joins to harbour dirt and moulds. The legs are part of the one piece moulding. It is small enough to get in the sink for a rinse although I find just tipping a couple of mugs of water into it is enough to wash out escaped coffee grounds. It can also be put into the dish washer. It fits into my 50cm smaller than average dishwasher comfortably. Oh yes. It looks good as well. I felt the Joseph Joseph Extend dish drainer screamed look at me as I walked into the kitchen and dominated the sink area visually. This is a softer slightly transparent white, there is less plastic to look at, and although it is an attractive and modern design, it is a lot more subtle and easy to live with. UPDATE: DO NOT BLAST THE SPOUT WITH STEAM The spout was water tight when folded in but I got a new steam cleaner and blasted everything in sight including teh spout, now it dribbles. This doesn't matter as mine is on a draining board but for anybody who wants to have it on a worktop, be careful/

Who knew a round rack would be so brilliant?! This is perfect! You can put bowls or glass/mugs on the outside whilst putting your dishes on the inside after washing up. The cutlery cups hold a lot and are easily moved. They use the space far better than a traditional drying rack. The drain spout is not only fun to watch but ingenious, really. You can close it if needed, as well. Whoever designed this, well done!! Oh, and it doesn't hurt that it's very unique and easy on the eyes. Worth the purchase!

Limited choice in round drainers so I’ve had chrome ones that just go rusty after a month or two.....this item is a very welcome change - sturdy, easy to clean, no soggy tea towels needed to keep the drainer from marking and NO RUSTING!! Need time to practice stacking my crockery but, so far, I’m really pleased

Best dish drainer so far. It holds a lot stably, drains water back to the sink properly, easy to clean, does not take too much space and cute to see in my kitchen. Water drips on the worktop if you hung glasses on the edge, but I put a dish draining mat beneath and it works perfectly. Probably too small for draining large dish and multiple pans together, but perfect size for a single or couple. Not a cheap purchase but worth the money.

Most round dish drainers are small, dull and not worth the money. I treat myself to this when I moved into a house requiring a round drainer and it's worth every penny. Great, quirky design. I can fit lots of dishes on it, didn't have to buy separate cutlery holders and it even has a little tap to drain water into the sink so the draining board stays clean too. Perfect!

Easily the best dishrack I ever owned. The plastic material is perfectly chosen for this application. Very stable; glasses and bowls hang safely on the outer prongs. Plates etc dry in the middle, cutlery in the drainers, and other items pile on top. It's amazing how many dishes the rack can handle.

Having always had conventional coated wire dish racks, this was something of a departure. It takes a bit of practice to work out the best ways to fit lots of odd shaped dishes in and around it, but worth perservering and actually holds more than the old rectangular one it replaced. Mugs and jugs fit on the external spikes, and plates and bowls half-in - half-out, It looks good, too. Quality feel and clever design. I never thought I would get excited about a dish rack, but life is full of surprises :)

I bought this for my sister after seeing it at my friends place. It is excellent for small spaces and can fit a lot on it . She is very happy with it after trying many other drainers unsuitable

So I bought one for my trailer because it is a small space, and this little gem works PERFECTLY! I do have a dishwasher at home, but I am always washing random items by hand like knives, cutting boards, pans, my favourite coffee mug, the coffee machine etc. After a few rounds with some of the best reviewed larger dish racks online (I have the space at home) and sending them back or giving them away (leaky, hard to clean, not draining without being propped up etc), I decided to go a bit smaller with this perfect little gem again. It is EXCELLENT! so thoughtfully designed. It is sturdy, made of thick, quality materials. The spout works perfectly. THe utensil cups snap in to place and never tip on you. Thedrying fingers are perfect for water bottles and letting things properly air out and dry. It fits a surprising amount of stuff, even my massice cutting board. Honestly, if you know anyone who is getting married, getting their first place, is expecting and will have baby bottles to wash and dry - get them this as a gift. It's a real gem. So much garbage on Amazon. So many fake reviews. I hope this one helps you skip the junk and get the good stuff!

Très hygiénique et costaud

I know it's crazy to love a dish rack this much, but I do. It's compact enough for a tiny galley kitchen, but holds a surprising number of dishes. The ring of sturdy prongs more than holds its weight in cups, bowls, even a pot. It drains well. I can't say whether it's easy to clean. But it fits in the sink, so should be easy to soak. Couldn't be happier! Well worth the price.
