Incubator and refrigerator.
This product has a removable shelf that enables you to store two small starter jars. Or, with the shelf removed, you can store a larger jar. I've checked the temperature against a thermometer and it is always within 1 degree of the chosen temperature. When I'm not going to be making bread for a few days, I drop the temperature to about 43 degrees and it keeps the starter at that temperature until I choose to bump it up again. Wonderful product I would buy again.

I LOVE my little sourdough home!
I was skeptical about buying a refrigerator/heater for my sourdough starter, but now I wonder how I ever lived without it. I’m a regular sourdough baker for my family. I used to keep starter on the counter and feed it daily. A lot of flour was required! When I tried storing it in the fridge, it took several feedings to convince it to double again. More flour waste. I’m sure it’s because I keep my fridge low (37 deg F) for long proofing. Refrigerator temperatures are generally too low for starter. I love the way I can schedule my starter to be ready when I am.The consistency of the starter is something I have never had before, despite it doubling or more. The risen starter comes out of its home fluffy and really healthy looking. It makes wonderful bread. The manual comes with suggested temperature settings for the number of days between feedings you wish use. Since every hydration differs, I’ve been playing with the settings to determine my personal optimal settings. You have full control.I also like how cute it is. Looks far better than my starter did on the counter. We’ve been making sourdough for over a year and plan to continue forever, so the cost is worth it to us. It may not be that way for everyone. My starter is happy; I’m happy.

The Perfect Tool for the Sourdough Baker - Especially if You're Just Getting Starting
I got the Brod & Taylor Sourdough Home to help maintain a more constant temperature for a new sourdough starter than is currently possible inside our home. This product does exactly what it says it will do and I'm very pleased with the performance. It's important to me to reduce the number of variables that can cause a new starter to fail and this product eliminates the issues of fluctuation or inaccurate temperatures.

Brod & Taylor Sourdough Home
I do like this sourdough home that sits on my counter. I keep my house cool so it is very affective after feeding my starter and keeps it dormant at low temp between uses. Inside is 2 to 4 degrees cooler than outside reading according to my portable Thermometer. So I would recommend setting it a bit on the high side.

For happy sour dough starter!
Our sour dough starter is named Arthur. He's named for the King that makes his flour:-) We call him "Arty". We have had Arty for four years now. He was started from chips of a starter that was more than ten years old then.We have a cold drafty kitchen. Even in the warmest best sheltered spot Arty suffered with temps as low 62 degrees. If you know sour dough, you'll feel Arty's pain ;-) He's 200 grams and when risen could half fill a mason jar. Thought that was Arty at his healthiest. Well.... think again! Since Arty has been in this little incubator at 80 degrees he fills that mason jar to the top! He's WAY fluffier, much more active. Bread made with this starter rises faster and fuller. It is more flavorful with more of a sour dough taste.More to the point, now that I can tweak his temperature by one degree I can pick how sour I want my bread. I have options I didn't have before. So, better bread, less work, more options! I am fully impressed by this gizmo!

Get these!!
I bought 2 of these for my sour dough starters. I have 2 different kinds and these fit the need perfectly! Although I could have put both in one unit if I bough smaller jars. I was having to feed the starters everyday and it was getting to be a bit much. I did not want to put the starters in the fridge because it kinda puts them in dormant state that takes a few days of feeding to actually wake them back up properly. With these even at 41 degrees it keeps them active. All I have to do is feed them about 5 days later and they still look amazing and are ready to go. These wonderful little units keep the temperature at what you choose it to be.. even when you house is cold/hot. I love the control it gives me. Thank you for such a Fantastic product! I'm telling everyone about these!

Was hoping for it to do what it describes! NOT THE CASE !!!
I received the sourdough home and read the instructions which was very basic and plugged it in and set the temperature to 74°F and let is sit for 12 hrs. where the room temperature was 70°F. I then took a calibrated IR thermometer and measured the temperature and received a reading of 69°F, so I closed the door and let it sit another 12 hrs. I then took another reading with the calibrated IR thermometer and got the reading of 70.6°F. I then took another calibrated IR thermometer along with a calibrated wet bulb thermometer and checked to make sure that there was not a problem with the first IR thermometer and after another 2 hrs. I took the readings again and the results were within 1% of the original reading of 70.6°F. This relies on Thermoelectric Cooler Peltier Cooler principle and will heat and cool to a certain amount depending on the ambient temperature of the room it is in and is NOT accurate in any way! After sitting 24 hrs. it could not get the temperature to being even close to it's set 74°F. Both of the IR thermometers and the wet bulb thermometers are all calibrated to the ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited Calibration with traceable certificates, so they are as accurate as one can get! It was RETURNED back to Amazon for a refund!
