Fantastically enjoyable and interesting
At last the book that Hitchcock obsessives crave have arrived. Sound judgments, often very funny and as it scoots back and forth in time (by topic not chronology) all kinds of curious links are made. The chapter 'The Londoner' should be compulsory reading for anyone interested in film history, in London, in Englishness, in the interwar period. And, of course, it makes you want to zoom back to watch almost all the films. I could have sworn Under Capricorn was a pretty terrible movie, but the author's description of the dinner scene that could only be filmed by various actors removing bits of the dinner table and jumping clear to make way for the shifting camera makes it now sound essential!
