It worked for the 400d so as long as it fits the port then I see no reason for it not to

Has anyone used it with a canon 4000d?

Having a quick poke around the net, the 4000d does NOT have a remote release socket. They rely on a wireless remote only. Look for a wireless remote. The only other option is to drive it remotely via a USB lead and a laptop.
