Nick Leeson's Life-line!
The so-called, 'Rogue Trader' - Nick Leeson who took the rap for bankrupting Baring's Merchant Bank in 1995 states in his book of the same name, (photo 30), "At Frankfurt, still clutching my trusty Tom Clancy thriller. I must have read the book half a dozen times". At the time, Leeson had just been arrested by German police but clearly - with all his mountain of worries, Tom Clancy kept his mind off more pressing things. Indeed, it might just have helped him to remain sane. That to me says something about Clancy's style of writing which keeps the reader engaged throughout this book of some 600 pages. If Leeson could read it around six times, it certainly says something about 'The Cardinal of the Kremlin' as a page-turner. So might I suggest that you grab yourself a copy - and read it!

One of the best of the Tom Clancy Novels
One of the best of the Tom Clancy Novels. In very good condition considering it was one of his earliest novels. Well packaged and arrived well before the scheduled date.My only complaint, is as with some previous novels purchased, in the bar code and other labels should not be attached to the outside of the covers, as it is a devil of a job to remove them without compromising the cover. I know the books are not new, but anything that further mars their condition should not be implemented. Put labels inside the flyleaf anywhere out of sight

Tom Clancy pulls a cracker out of the bag.
The story takes place in the '80's when the US and USSR were developing "Star Wars" technology. There is the added plotline of a long term spy in the Soviet Defence Ministry working for the Americans who passes on the infomation. Eventually the spy is blown and is caught by the KGB. So a desperate race is on to get him out of the Soviet Union by blackmailing the chief of the KGB. Jack Ryan is in Russia with the negotiating team for US - Soviet disarmament talks and is caught up in the ensuing mayhem.

Gets a little stodgy in places but still got through it fairly quickly and an interesting story, even if I don't always agree with the politics.

one of the best Clancy novels (IMHO)
It's a good read - maybe not as good as Red October (what is) but still very readable. Strongly recommend (especially if you get a good second hand deal).

Great follow up to Red October
There is something magical about Clancy's writing about Cold War. Gives a sort of mysticism of that age, and Jack Ryan is well adjusted in his CIA role, which won't last long. Resolves some plot points from Red October, and has great repercussions in future books, especially Executive Orders.
