Flies (including the little black flies, called fungus knats...those annoying creatures that love your indoor plants) as well as moths love this light and die a swift death. Mosquitoes are more hit and miss as not all types are attracted to this light (some are even repelled supposedly!). So if it primarily mosquito killing, you may want to consider other types of solutions. But if it is something annoying that flies onto your laptop screen at night, or eats your cashmere cloths, this should do the trick to keep things in check.It stands 37cm tall and 14cm wide. So not big not small. Its got a little flip out hanger thing on the top, but before you envisage hanging it like a lantern somewhere, consider that the cord on this thing is like what you get on a toaster, about 110cm max in my case. Who hangs something 1meter off the ground? You'll probably need an unsightly annoying extension cord if it is not sitting on a table near your power socket. Yuck.How do you know if its working? There is no satisfying snap like you get on 12v hand held zappers. You either see the little critters on the internal zapping rods which actually does the dirty work quietly, or there is a screw out bottom that stores the remnants (just like on your toaster to clean out the crumbs).Unless youre in a household where someone is going to stick metal utensils into the slats on the cage everything is housed within a cage thatonly the tiniest of fingers going to get thru, if your fingers are 1cm wide! My hand held zapper makes a huge sounds when it connects with a fly. I've yet to hear this make a similar sound (update: you will get the pop if the right insect comes along) and given the power consumption is about 12 watts (11 or which is the light bulb itself) dont think there is a major shock in store for naughty children.Lastly you probably don't want to have it on in the room youre using intensively. Not the nicest of light to be around (unless youre a plant). I stick it different places to catch the bugs before they get into the rooms i am inhabiting. I also use a smart power adapter so i dont have to go downstairs to turn the thing off at night.(update: bought a couple different ones for my mum. Wish i had gotten this one. So much better designed and less cheap feeling the others in this price range)

I had a recent issue with flies in the kitchen so purchased this. I left it on most of the day, into the evening when it was dark.It didn’t catch/kill a single fly. It did light up the kitchen of an evening so if you’re looking for a different type of light this isn’t bad.

It's a good size. It hasn't caught much yet but I'm sure it will when there's more flies, etc around.

Great compact fly killer that does what you would expect. The lead could be longer, but allows you to position it in most places you would want. Don’t expect this to instantly attract and kill all flying critters in the area, but leave this on for a few hours and it will do its job.You get a loud bang each time it kills a fly, which is easily heard from two rooms away. I leave this by my back door while it’s open on hot days and it greatly reduces the amount of flies, mosquitoes and moths in the house!Overall an excellent product.
