Not used for it's intended purpose
I am a balloon artist and I use this tool to insert small objects into balloons. It expands the balloon neck almost effortlessly. I spent the day finding my kid's small toys and inserting them into balloons. Then my husband came home and laughed his head off at my new tool when I told him what it is really used for. Then he got to playing with it too.I had seen another balloon artist using this type of tool that caused me to seek one out for my self. But she only said it was a vet tool. She didn't say what it was really called. It took chance to find another balloon artist to tell me that it was a castration device for animals. Why couldn't the first artist just tell me that?I was then able to locate this elastrator tool quickly and I am very happy with my purchase.

It works!
I just starting using it but it works very well. The fingers should not loosen up like the other style.

Outside the box use
I am using this tool for an unconventional reason and it worked for my purpose. I need to open up balloons to stuff them with a squishy substance. I use tips of the instrument to open up the balloon wide enough to get the substance into it. So my review is probably not the best to help others know how the Economy Band Castrator works for castration...but perhaps it will help others think outside the box for other uses of this instrument.

Did the job
Did the job - we had 2 goat kids to castrate and I wanted to save a vet visit. Not as stretchy as my old one from the 80's, but we got the job done and that's what counts.

Good enough for the casual castrator
We started our herd with four goats, one of which is a male. We wanted to castrate him before he started acting like a male or impregnating his sisters. This was one of the least expensive castrators available. It worked as advertised (sorry Olaf!), but I would probably spend the extra coin on a more substantial model if I thought I had or was planning on having a large herd.

Great for bundling things!
This tool is great for banding things together! It seems relatively light duty though. If you plan to just throw it in a tool box you may go with a heavier duty metal one, if it will be hanging or put away in an area where other tools or such wont damage it then it is perfect! (this is not saying it is cheaply built! It is well built. Everything has its limits though! :) )

Flimsy, but OK for small breeders
Kind of flimsy. It worked, but cheaply made. When I applied the band and opened the fingers it crossed up and felt like the handles were not tough enough to open the band. I feel like this is fine for someone with just a few bucklings to castrate a year, but not for a big breeder that will be using it a lot.
