Gorgeous colour section in the middle and the photographs are not crammed in at all.
Just got this book for my birthday and my initial impression is extremely positive. The presentation is beautiful. Gorgeous colour section in the middle and the photographs are not crammed in at all. The person who said that only leaves one or two-star reviews for everyone they review. This book has a feel of quality and although I’ve not had a chance to read the text yet, it sort of goes without saying that anything written by an esteemed author like Mark Chirnside will be second to none. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone superior to him.Thank you

A Post Titanic View!
This book is great to see how the White Star line tried to rule the seas after Titanic. This book shows what happens when the Germans have to build and hand over a valuable asset to the English and have it used as domination of the Seas! With great illustrations and a fantastic story line, we see how a German ship can benefit the English!

A great book, and a real treat!
"So what is new in this book?" That is the first question I ask, as a maritime researcher and author, whenever I hear about a new maritime book project. This book is a treasure-trove of facts, figures and pictures.Mark Chirnside has written a number of books on the liners during the past decade; each one has been a gem in its own right. His latest work is on the "Aquitania," and is a must-have for any liner buff. For this book, on an often-forgotten ocean liner, Chirnside delved deeply into original archival material in order to produce facts and figures never before printed on the great liner. He is able to provide new insight on her remarkable and distinguished career. The photographic selection is unique and excellent, with many photos and illustrations being reproduced in color. The quality of the publication is excellent, and should be on the shelf of any maritime enthusiast.

Excellent book!
This update of Mark Chirnside's Majestic book is another fine piece of work on a nearly forgotten liner. Mark has developed a reputation as a painstaking researcher, and it shows. This version has been rewritten and has more text and images than the original book. You get the feeling you are reading about the life of a person in some ways. Majestic was one of the greatest ocean liners ever built and a very successful one. You will find some information here nowhere else. The appendices with passenger carrying and profit/loss statements are a valuable contribution to ocean liner research. This is a must read for even the most casual Majestic or ocean liner enthusiast.Brent Holt

One star for White Star
I was given this book as a Christmas gift. I would have never bought it myself. It seems to be an excuse to cram in as many small images of the ship as possible. There seems to have been no thought to use a few stunning images for maximum effect instead. The layout of the illustrations is dull and unimaginative and whilst I am sure that the text is well detailed, where I have dipped into it, it is an uninspiring read. It does not make me want to begin at page 1 and absorb the RMS Majestic story all the way through to the end - indeed, it seems as heavy and ponderous as the ship herself. This book, I fear, will soon be making its way to the charity shop.

Imperdibile!

The Mighty Majestic
Mark Chirnside has a knack of finding new info and turning it into a learning experience for the ship buff. In this volume, we get a great over-view of the Majestic, which was an important ship for the WSL.The pictures are excellent, the text is filled with important events in the ship's career. The only thing I could suggest is finding more people who sailed on it to add to the text. One could have hoped that the publisher would have allowed for a lengthier volume. Other than that, it certainly sets the bar in terms of research.

The great oceanliner "Majestic"
Mark Chirnside's third book is again a great one. It is full of details on the big White Star Liner "Majestic" - all well researched. It's a pleasure to read and look at it !Well done!
