Unsurpassed brilliance
Surprised me with the light brilliance. I bought one for my son and was so impressed I bought one for myself.

Great flash light
This is a very compact flash light that can push a lot of light. Comes with two power sources, rechargeable pack and a four AAA carrier adapter. I like that it has the ability to focus the light closer into a spot light or make it wide angle. So far depending on how this is used and what light intensity you may need to charge it every now and again. I usually carry a 400 lumens flashlight, this 1000 lumens flashlight is much brighter. I see this being very good for either home or camping situations at night.Overall I give this a 4.5/5. It’s just missing some button tap features that I’m use to, but still a solid product.

Affordable tactical flashlight
There are many tactical flashlights from brands like Streamlight, Fenix, Pelican and Surefire that cost many times more than this Coast unit, and having used some of them, the performance difference is really small. This Coast unit is nearly as well built, bright and rugged as most of the more expensive options.Overall, the Coast is well-made from machined aluminum. The fit and finish are good, though I see that it only earns an IP54 rating, as opposed to the IP65 (or higher) ratings many of the more expensive competitors have earned. This suggests to me that immersing the Coast or exposing it to really nasty weather might not be a great idea. On the other hand, I managed to drop mine a few times - including at least once onto a hard concrete floor - and it survived without a problem. As other reviewers mention, charging the battery requires opening up the flashlight - there's no charging port exposed on the outside of the flashlight. I had thought this might be a good idea to keep the flashlight more weather-tight, but given that it only earns IP54, I'm more inclined to think that the flashlight was originally designed to work on disposable AAA batteries, and the rechargeable batteries were an afterthought. The beam can be focused from wide to narrow, and at the narrow setting, it casts a bright, 1000 lumen beam in the center - enough to light up most objects, even from a good distance. Zooming is easy, and the controls seem to work smoothly. Battery life with the included rechargeable batteries seems to be about an hour on high and maybe 18 hours on low. Coast makes an upgraded replacement rechargeable battery that seems to extend runtime. I've also had good success using disposable lithium AAA batteries - I seem to get about 3 hours on high this way.The idea of having your choice between rechargeable and disposable batteries is a great idea, in my opinion. If you need lots of runtime, just carry a bag of conventional batteries...when it runs down, you can be back online in just a few seconds. I suppose with the charging design, you could also carry multiple rechargeable packs, charging one while using another. There's no flashing "SOS" or other annoying settings...just press the switch and you cycle from off to high, medium and low. I prefer this over some other brands that have all sorts of other options. The switch itself seems to be a plastic or rubber-coated switch on the end of the light, similar to what I've seen on many other brands. As for the "tactical" nature of the flashlight, I know that some other brands can be wielded as a formidable weapon in their own right...I'm not sure the Coast is as effective - the fit and finish is smooth and rounded, so it's not going to replace a self-defense baton or anything like that. It is a very good flashlight, however.Coast makes a broad range of similar flashlights that differ in size and capabilities. This is my first product from them, but I'd certainly expect all the others to be good choices too.The bottom line is that this is a great tactical flashlight for the price. You could easily spend 2-3 times more and not get better performance, so unless you have a specific need for more, I'd definitely recommend taking a look at this Coast product, or any of its cousins under the Coast brand.

A tough bright flashlight that can focus
They tell the truth. This flashlight has a consistent, bright beam. The focus setting is very bright. There is no memory for the last lumen setting. It takes 6 button pushes to cycle from low power through medium and high and back to low power. This is not the light to be placed in the closet that is accessed 4 or 5 times a day. There is a way to shorten the effort. If the power button is only partially pressed, the light will come on, but not set. By continuing to partially press the button, it is possible to cycle through the light modes without having to do an off cycle. Just push the button harder when the desired luminosity is reached. One thing I am concerned about is the use of an end button, kind of a rubber balloon. In less expensive flashlights, this rubber fails, and when it does, the switch fails. I am assuming that this high tier flashlight will not have that wear problem. This is a possible weakness though. This is just a flashlight. No flashing red lights, no flashing blue lights, no siren. Just a high quality, tough, versatile tactical flashlight. The light is a bit bigger in diameter than the average flashlight. It does have some interesting design quirks. In order for the light to be capable of holding 4 AAA batteries, and also be rechargeable with an Li-ion battery, the recharge has to happen at the battery level. The battery has a USB-C plug on the top. This design means that it will be necessary to open the flashlight each time it is charged. It is a small sacrifice to make to have a convertible flashlight. This flashlight is quality built from top to bottom. Even the AAA battery holder is the most solidly built I have seen. This flashlight is going to be capable of taking quite a bit of abuse during those hiking and camping trips. The IP54 waterproof rating means use it in the rain. This flashlight is just a super high quality, no nonsense, tactical flashlight. It is designed perfectly to do what it does. I am going to rate this flashlight a 4 for an excellent flashlight that really needs to remember the lumen setting. I am also concerned by the button design.

Very Bright, Well Built, Sturdy
OK, the light is very bright, I don't have a measuring device other than comparing to others, but on high is definitely brighter than others that were advertised as 1000 lumens. You can choose either High, Med or Low, without the annoying other clicks you never use like strobe and SOS. It comes with a rechargeable battery and USBc cord but you must take the battery out of the flashlight to plug in the charging cord, no port access from outside the flashlight, so it lost a star versus other lights I have that can be recharged without disassembly via an accessible port or magnetic charging cable to conserve water resistance ratings. The flashlight is still a little too big/thick for an everyday carry, but the brightness is a big step up versus smaller lights. The focus is also a nice difference from the zooming lights as the threads let you be more precise with the beam focus than sliding it back and forth. The listing said in stock when I ordered it but it took over two full weeks to receive and the original ship date was even further out, weird
