Appealing but frustrating to read in french
There is something very sweet and appealing about this story. I'm an intermediate French student, but I found it a bit difficult because of the idioms and unusual phrasing. Nothing that I couldn't translate with the help of a good online dictionary, but still, in places it was slow going.I loved the characters, but, it's an allegory, and not a whole lot happens. The first half is about the wolf and his family. The second half takes up the story of the boy. In each case, we're introduced to some unusual characters and as soon as we get invested in them, the setting changes and we start over with another set of characters, and then--whoosh!--off we go to another place and another set of characters. In the end, they're all brought together. But I found the lack of a real plot a bit frustrating.

cute story-good challenge for students
I read this book in my Intermediate French II class at UCO and I really enjoyed it. This is a story of a one-eyed wolf who lives in a zoo. One day a boy comes to his cage and stares at him day in and day out. The wolf is annoyed by this. The rest of the book explores the history of these two characters. I think this is too much for beginner students, but for those who have been studying for a few years will find this to be easy enough to read, but still a bit of a challenge, depending on your French reading comprehension level.

A lire absolument.
