JRP09 - The Hardest Drum Book Ever Written
G**Y
A Great Book
Don't be put off by the Title it's not that hard. This is a great book because it shows you exercises to gain control of using the Left hand to do off beat 1/8th Notes on the HiHat & closing on the downbeats giving you the typical Disco type Swish sound, then moving across to hit the snare on beats 2 & 4. The Right hand does solo exercises on the ride cymbal, but with a bit of thought & imagination you could move it across to the Toms or any other Sound Source for that matter. In no time at all you can put it to good use in any style of music. You don't have to Open the HiHat if you so decide thus cancelling out the Swish sound, I like to give it an accent by using the shoulder of the stick to do this. The material is a great coordination study & in my opinion a good way of starting to learn Open Handed Drum Set Playing as opposed to crossing the right Hand over the top of the Left Hand.
