The removable plates make cleaning effortless.
I brought this to replace my (very) old George Foreman grill that I'd had about ten years and was still going strong but looking much the worse for wear. The reason I chose this as a replacement was mainly because I liked the idea of removable grill plates, after spending ages cleaning the plates following every use on my old grill, having the ability to detach the plates and pop them in the dishwasher along with the drip try was and is a luxury I will never grow tired of...As for its ability to cook food, I can't fault it. Having said that because of the fact the plates are detachable the distribution of heat is not as uniform as it was on my old grill and tends to get warmer in the centre and a few degrees cooler at the edges but that can be compensated for by moving the food around during grilling.

Love the detachable plates !
I have been using my halogene oven for years and it's great, but when cooking burgers or chicken nuggets for example, I have to turn them halfway during cooking, which can be annoying. I always wanted a George for this reason but the cleaning put me off as most of them don't have detachable plates. Until I found these ones!!!It's such a life changer! It's so popular I had to wait a couple of weeks until it was back in stock to receive it. But it was worth the wait. The product looks great, literally just need to plug it in and voilà! During the first couple of uses, there was kind of a new/plastic smell when cooking, but it does disappear with time. I have had a few burgers since buying them, and it cooks them evenly on both sides, cutting the cooking time in half compare to my halogene as I don't need to turn them !!And it's also so easy to clean the plates. Just need a little bit of washing liquid and hot water and that's it! It's non-sticky and the grease rinses off easily. I still need to use a wet clothe to wash the grease splatter on the machine but a quick wipe does the job.Highly recommend it!

Great unit - so easy to clean, and cooks food better!
Just a quick review... Two important aspects I've noticed in comparison to my old, more standard Foreman grill this unit replaced.First the removable plates make such a difference to cleaning, which I always dreaded with the older unit (and really struggled to get it truly clean). Being able to remove the plates and wash them properly makes cleaning so much easier and more effective, especially for the top plate which (I guess because of gravity means the oil/fat goes to the lower plate) always ended up with burned on food which was hard to remove without soaking.Secondly, as others have commented, the plates don't get as hot as a standard Foreman, I'm guessing because the removable plates introduce a small gap between heating element and plate. I originally worried about this and swithered before buying. However, while this means that heat up and cooking take longer, I actually think this is an advantage. Essentially the food cooks better - less barbeque (ie burned on outside, raw on inside) and actually better cooked all the way through. Also if you accidentally leave the food on longer than you intended it doesn't burn as quickly as would happen with the old unit.So I'm very pleased with the purchase - the easy cleaning and more thorough (albeit slower) cooking are great! Only reason not to give five stars are the weird fold down leg to angle the unit (looks flimsy, can't see it lasting), rather pointless/useless power cord storage (doesn't really work) and it's significantly bulkier than the old unit for roughly the same cooking surface size. Still would highly recommend though!

Probably the Benchmark of Grill Brands
Bought this to replace another one that wore out (failed temperature switch among other things)This is a bigger model so can spread the meat etc wider apartGood even heating, and warms up very fast. The lid mechanism allows for various thicknesses and the fat drain works wellThe best thing about this one (according to my wife!) is that the trays come out so making it much easier to cleanShe would definitely buy again!

Works fine for me
The easy-clean feature of its having easily detachable non-stick plates, is for me the most important feature. I don't have a family to cook for; there's just me and my husband, and we eat different things (I'm a veggie, he isn't) at different times and each do our own cooking, such as it is. Maybe if I was grilling a lot of food at once, the size and positioning of the drip tray would be more of a concern, but as it is, it's fine.Certainly, an on/off switch would be a good feature, and might be expected for the price. Also the lack of slope for drainage might be a concern when cooking a quantity of fatty food such as sausages. Even so, it meets my needs. My husband has got back into having bacon, and the odd piece of steak, neither of which he could be bothered with doing, using a messy grill pan under the standard grill. Both are done brilliantly - succulent, and very quick - by the George Foreman, with no mess, or burnt fat smells filling the house. It's early days yet, but so far, would recommend.
