checking the reviews it looks like this boom arm is bent constantly; is this a design feature? or is this unintentional?

Unfortunately this Boom broke (snapped in the middle of the night).  Apparently the SHURE SM7B was too heavy for it.  We would have returned, but by the time we had fully set up our studio it was too late.

Is it a difficult set up and noisy?

I just assembled mine today and it was really easy to build. There is no doubt about its quality. Really nice quality professional product work same as before I bought my RODE.

Can the base be mounted upside down?

No. The arm has a free-spinning stud that can slide out for easy storage and would fall out if upside down.

Is there a way to mount this on my wall? With a separate attachment

Possibly, if you purchase a separate wall mount.  The desk mount section is attached to the tapered base piece (that sits atop the desk).  That tapered base part of the mount contains a cylindrical hole that accepts the protruding pin on the bottom of the articulating arm, and a thumb screw on the desk mount allows the arm to rotate without lifting off the base. You could discard the desk mount section and insert the extending pin from the bottom of the articulating arm into something similar to the Amazon listing:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MRJTRC2?ref_=pe_527950_33920290_dpLink&th=1     The diameter of the pin at the base of the heavy-duty boom arm is slightly less than 1/2" so from the measured pictures, it should fit in a separately purchased wall mount -- but I did not try this personally.  It's a sleek & sturdy Mic Arm as designed.  Good luck with your custom mount.
