Great read, extremely relatable!
So I bought this book and read it within a day, could not put it down! Followed iron rookie on Twitter and sent the obligatory pic of me getting stuck into the book..... Couple of days later and iron rookie DM’d me to ask what my thoughts were....... this was my reply:Hello pal, I absolutely love it! Couldn't put it down. The whole thing is just so relatable. Im a fireman at Penketh and regularly cycle to work, I've already applied your tips about fueling for the bike ride and it does make a noticeable difference!I was never one for exercising. Damaged my shoulder playing rugby about 4 years ago and had to give it up because of my job, weight ballooned from 13st up to 18st. Started to run very short circuits and decided to do a sprint tri at Darwen (prob not the best idea for my first one but hey). I then did the Horwich sprint tri too. I've never really kicked on from there, never took the next step up to an Olympic but I'm going to apply your training plan next year to help me get through my first Olympic.Living in Lowton I've always been interested in the ironman as I'm a mile away from penny flash so I've been down to the watch the start of the swim several times. Admire anyone who can complete that event and always thought it would be too much for me, but reading your book has made me feel like it's very achievable. I've pencilled the 2019 ironman in with the wife (we've just had our 2nd child and don't think I'd be able to commit to the training for 2018 event).I've got myself a pad of paper and a pen ready for my second read, time to jot a few things down and get myself organised! I'll be sure to send you a thank you when I finally achieve finishing the uk ironman.Excellent book mate, nothing too complicated about the process, just a fantastic way of documentating an epic achievement! Very, very motivating!

Tri Training
I follow the author on Twitter and enjoy his stories, so after chatting with him I decided to buy the book. This was a very wise thing to do on my part. Mostly because it’s been a really eye-opener and game changer.Moving from sprint Triathlons to middle distance and full Ironman is a scary thought especially the times where in at the moment with no group meet ups.He has put his journey into words that makes it easy to follow and relate to. As I’m reading it I laugh out loud and find myself realising if I continue down this road I will grow and change for the better as a person. He really is an inspiration and as he started his journey from scratch the book is full of wonderful tips and advise that should be taken on board as his main objective is to help, support and first and for most enjoy this from start to finish..

Fantastic book for anybody looking to start their own fitness journey!
The hubby bought this.......this is his review. What a fantastic book! Not just for those who seek the challenge and Ironman brings, but for anybody looking to begin any kind of journey or just wants to read an inspirational story of someone going from unfit to Ironman. If your mind boggles at reading about VO2 max, FTP, lactate thresholds, heart rate zones etc etc, then I wholeheartedly recommend picking this book up. It provides a number of simple, straightforward and easy to follow plans which will take you from being a complete novice, to the event of your choosing. It also have a number of interviews with truely inspirational people (a full time mum who completes triathlons!!! How can you not be inspired!).The book is full of hints and tips for either newbies or experienced athletes. It shows you don't need to be a super athlete to begin with, or expensive gear, just the right mindset and a desire to succeed and what ever goals you set can be achieved.Whilst only at the beginning of my own journey, this book will be read throughout!Top work Iron Rookie!

Fantastic book. Couldn’t put it down.
Absolutely fantastic book. Couldn’t put it down. As I now look to step up to the full distance, and IMUK2022, I found the book puts a real world, been there perspective on what’s required to complete the race, and has really made me assess my own training, as I have reviewed plenty of training plans and ideas but always struggle to stick to them due to competing demands.I certainly plan to get up to the North West and out on the course in my training and will be really grateful of the tips and support outlined in this book. Will also look forward to giving Iron Rookie a shout when I see him racing next year.

wish me luck
So a couple of things. First i am not an ironman or anything near that however i have done some 100k treks like the london to brighton and thames path challenges but have failed on the whole 5k run or multi discipline triathlon stuff.I have done a lot of web surfing trying to find something to help with starting triathlons at couch to sprint up to olympic level. This book managed to distil the information i have found in multiple web and book sources in a way that was fun to read, has some excellent tips from those multiple ironmen that they wish they new when starting ...it also gives you a no holds barred warts and all step by step of what PK did to go from couch potato to IM, literally how to get to sprint, move up to olympic etc, it has his training notes, race lessons learned, kit info, literally a step by step just follow the book but in a way that is readable and enjoyable from a beginners perspective.Does it work? - yes it got PK to IMwill it work for me? find out in May :) i have booked my 5k for dec and my sprint in may wish me luck ..PS he also dispels the myth that you have to have gucci kit :) he did his IM using a watch from argos that cost £9.99 not a 500ukp garmin :PI have had chats with PK on FB and twitter, he is approachable and helpful. Top bloke.all in all a good read.
