In the Footsteps of Jesus, 2nd Edition: A Chronicle of His Life and the Origins of Christianity

Beautifully illustrated and informative, but. . . .
As with most all Nat. Geographic books, this one has many photos carefully chosen, giving us a useful glimpse into the people and places associated with Jesus. The maps too were sometimes amazing, e.g, a map of lower Galilee where Jesus did most of his ministry, with pointers at different places where important preachings or sermons were done, or a map of Jerusalem, showing where events of the Passion unfolded. The text includes many interesting findings, but the first 80 pages, about the Roman rule and rulers of the land, told me next to nothing about Jesus himself. Skip to chapter 4. Also this is a deliberately objective book, not one at all to convince or dissuade the reader, but to present the archaeological tie-ins. Knowing how and where Jesus was buried, for instance, tells the reader nothing about his teaching and can seem rather cold to a devout Christian.

Great for Bible students
I was expecting a magazine sized volume and was pleasantly surprised to receive a large volume containing text photos and maps. National Geographic always delivers great quality. They exceeded expectations this time. This book would be great for anyone interested in Bible study.

Well written with beautiful pictures
This is one of the best books of its type that I have. It has beautiful pictures, is easy to read, provides pictures of artifacts, places, maps and links it to bible versus. The authors did an excellent job.

It is a great reading companion for bible study
Well written history about the time before and during Jesus's life in what we now call the Middle East. It is not religious, just historical and very interesting. It is a great reading companion for bible study.

Excellent book. Valuable for anyone who wants to think about the life of Jesus. I don't appreciate the paintings and other art works of other periods, even though I think I understand why they were included. I would prefer photos of artifacts, any at all, which would share the life of that period of history.

Nuggets of archaeological and historical fatcs
Content is very informative, provided a back story to what is in the bible. Gives you a glimpse into the time of Jesus and how life must have been during the first century. Has nuggets of archaeological and historical facts which is what I was most interested in. Well written and laid out. Overall great read

A valuable resource for all interested in the Christian faith
An excellent book full of value fact & photos. It is written from a Roman Catholic/Orthodox point of view. It does not appear to appreciate the evangelical or protestant view of the Christian religion. We used to live & work, both, I as a lawyer & also we as Christian volunteers, at the Garden Tomb in Jerusalem - that is only mentioned in rather disparaging & dismissive comments, with which I would not agree. However, it is an amazing and well documented study which I have shown to many other friends & which we can use in our Christian work & witness. Please thank the author, the publisher & the National Geographic , f r producing. It was especially fortunate that it was mentioned in the Dec 2017 edition of the NG magazine & so I was alerted to buy the book itself. Well done - a most valuable contribution to Christian knowledge & so to faith
