I was hesitant to purchase this hat because of the reviews on poor packaging and the item being damaged. I took a risk and ordered it anyway. Good news, the packaging was great! Came in a box big enough for the hat to sit naturally inside without any folding or crushing. It was delivered intact and perfect shape.I used this hat at the beach and even wore it while kayaking (nothing extreme). It held up just fine without any noticeable damage. The best sun protection I’ve gotten out of any hat I’ve used. The brim isn’t super huge, but it is larger than your typical baseball hat, and it goes all the way around. Definitely protected my face and all of my neck from the sun.The only advice I would like to add is just to be careful with it. Be gentle, don’t throw it around. Put it on your head and leave it alone.

As some reviewers have mentioned, the hat does run a little large (I typically wear a 7 3/4 ball cap). However, as others have mentioned, the draw string helps in keeping the hat where it is needed. It definitely sits on my ears but isn't uncomfortable. If your head is on the smaller side, you could wear a bandanna or maybe a ball cap but that may defeat the purpose if you are trying to keep your head cool.I used this over the weekend working in the sun and it did a great job of blocking the sun from my face, ears, and neck (primary reasons I bought this). The brim is very large and got in the way a few times while I was swinging a sledge hammer. I did sweat quite a bit and the hat absorbed a good amount of it. We'll see how it holds up over time. The underside of the hat is all black and is basically a continuation of the black trim seen in the picture. Although the black material may reduce the ventilation of the hat, I think the purpose is to keep the sun from breaching to your head which it does a great job doing.Overall, great purchase and will definitely purchase the exact same hat again once this hat has lived its life.

I spent three long days mapping in the desert in Central Oregon, across steep, rugged terrain and in direct sunlight. I didn't apply sunscreen to my face because I knew I'd be sweating and didn't want it in my eyes. I wore this the whole time, and didn't get burned on my face or neck; quite an accomplishment in 90 degree weather with no shade to speak of. I've got a bigger than normal noggin and this hat fits comfortably snug. There's a drawstring to keep it on in windy conditions and it didn't fly off my head once when it was drawn. It's pretty sturdy, too. It was a little bent in the shipping box when I received it but it just adds a little character to it -- it's got a little bit of a swoosh on the front brim. No big deal in my book. All in all I like it, just don't expect to take selfies while wearing it -- the black fabric on the underside of the brim effectively blocks all sunlight, shrouding your face in shadow.

I bought this for a planned float trip with my wife that we had to unfortunately cancel. As I normally wear a ball cap, I was hesitant to wear this around the neighborhood walking the dog, working in the yard, playing catch with the kids. Thought it would stand out & I don’t like drawing attention to myself. But after the heat and humidity of this summer started creeping into even the early morning hours during walks, I started wearing it and find it irritating to now have to wear a ball cap when it’s deemed “less than inappropriate” for certain engagements like dinner at a local restaurant.... It’s comfortable, keeps the sun out of my eyes, off my neck and face, & allows my head to stay as cool as possible even in 100+ degree heat by catching breezes. Good quality hat and looks great! Cannot wait for the rescheduled float trip!

This is such a great and comfortable hat and at it's price, I'd recommend it to everyone. Not only does it protect my face from the sun, but it usually is shading my shoulders during peak sun hours as well.My problem is that it only lasted one summer of minimal use. At the end of last summer, it started to develop a hole on the top of the hat. After 4 uses this summer, the hat is unusable because of the hole. What happened is when I take the hat off, I grab it from the top. When doing so, the hat pinches in which breaks the straw on top, creating the hole. I understand that this is user error, but a lot of people I know do the same thing and most hats don't break like this one.Overall, I do recommend this hay. Just get 2 in case.

I really like this hat. I used it a lot on our recent vacation. It really blocked out the sun. The days were very windy and I had to use the chin strap to keep it on my head. I don't know if I would recommend the hat for working out, but if you are doing a light work out or just using when walking then I would say this is a great hat for those activities. Just keep in mind that the brim of the hat is very large and covers a large area. I just happen to like that. I would purchase this hat again.

Bought this hat after my quicksilver one was slowly wasting away. I work outdoors on cable lines so I often west sun hats during the crazy heat. I needed something with a little more to it, I like the fabric underneath as well, the sun doesn't get thru the cracks with my QS hat. The band on the inside of the hat feels more secure on your head and I like the drawstring it had. It's make things way more secure. I do have to say that I did have to return the hat twice because they kept putting it into a small box and folded it inside. After two times I had to call in and let them know I wanted a huge box for this hat or I would continue returning the hat. Third time was the charm and I have enjoyed the hat ever since.

Update June 2021: after two full summers of regular use, the straw is starting to fall apart in one spot near the crown of this hat. Still perfectly usable since I have a full head of hair and don't fear a sunburn there. It's been great for 2 summers and will probably last me a third, but for under $25, I just ordered another one :-)This hat is awesome! Does a great job in strong sun and somehow fits a ton of head sizes well! I have a medum-large head and there's clearly room for a bigger head even though it's comfortable and secure on my head.The only challenge comes with shipping. This hat comes packed flat, which is fine in of itself as long as it doesn't come crushed in shipping. Unfortunately Amazon can't seem to be able to find the right box size so either sides get rolled up or the top gets squished in a flat box. I had to order this hat twice and was able to gently straighten the sides on the second hat with no major damage, but your mileage may vary.TL;DR Buy this hat! Just be prepared to buy it a few times and send one or two hats back if they get damaged in shipping.

Hat is great, just as you'd expect. I was a bit worried regarding delivery because some reviews had said they'd had issues but mine was absolutely fine. Came in an amazon box, the rim was like slightly flipped up on one side as though the wind had blown it but not damaged at all so just popped back. Fits great, the band looks like it would fit a lot of head sizes because of the way it's done. The cord is also really good with a toggle on it to cinch it tight. Yeah, if you need to keep the sun off it's perfect. Quite stiff compared to say a panama hat, so I guess depends on what you need. For me yachting and doing some outdoor work it's perfect.

Love this hat! Great on the beach, at the cabin or in the yard. Fits great. Quality construction, unlike previous straw hats I have owned. The underside and edge of the brim is sewn to a layer of black fabric. Stops the straw from fraying and cancels glare off the water. Excellent value!

Buen sombrero aunque es talla grande, pero protege muy bien del sol, esperemos dure bastante.
