The Fender Bass: An Illustrated History

As the "Illustrated History" title suggests, the content is mostly pictorial and light on commentary. Scads of full color glossy photos take you from the earliest P-basses to the Urge bass and beyond. A good portion of the book is devoted to identifying dates of manufacture by head-stocks, logos, bridges, tuning machines, etc. Topped off with a tour of the vintage Fender factory, this book is a must have for any Fender bass aficionado.One thing I would've liked to see however, is some information on the various Fender bass neck profiles and their respective eras (i.e. U-shape, vintage C, modern C, soft-V).

If you collect vintage Fender basses or are simply looking for a great investment in a P or J bass, then you need this book.So good, I bought another copy for a friend who likes 1970's Fender basses.Full colour pictures of a wide variety of vintage Fender basses with a great chronological history of its development.Great value.

I am a pretty serious Fender Precision bass collector. This book is, by far, the closest thing to a Fender bass "bible" I have read. It is packed with drool inspiring pictures and the reference section which illustrates chronological changes to various parts like tuners and the serial number chart (more accurate than the one on Fender's website!) is invaluable. Buy this book and buy a spare copy too.

This is a delightfully photographed and extremely well printed book. Chock full of eye candy and interesting historical information too. The focus is clearly on the Precision and Jazz basses. Scant attention is paid to anything else. Well worth the price of admission.

I really enjoy this book for a good read and the great pictures for eye candy. It is also a great resource for me on the history of the Fender bass. I use this book when I need to find any details or specs on vintage Fender Basses.. And wow, what a great selection of pictures of these basses and the changes they went through over the years..

Ottimo libro per bassisti, collezionisti e appassionati al mitici bassi Fender. Il volume ripercorre la storia del basso, dalla creazione del primo Fender Precision bass nel 1951, fino ad arrivare ai giorni nostri. Il libro è ricco di foto di strumenti, volantini pubblicitari e cataloghi d'epoca accompagnate da brevi didascalie (in inglese). In fondo c'è una ricca sezione, forse utile più che altro al riconoscimento dei modelli vintage e al restauro, che ci mostra come sono state modificate negli anni le decals, i loghi, i ponti, le palette e via dicendo.In definitiva un must assoluto per i maniaci Fender.

I found this book very informative. I can’t believe I’ve only just come across it . I’ve had problems identifying my 70,s Jazz Bass for years with all the miss information on the net . Finally this book has cleared it up I have a late 74 Jazz even though the serial number dates it a 72 on the three bolt neck . Anyway with all the other info in the book it was clearly a 74 . If you own a P or J or any bass for that matter it’s well worth the read .
