Good book telling the story of a young man who has his life controlled by the bottle from a very early age leading to him suffering a stroke.I enjoyed this book as it help me to understand how easy is to let drinking take over your life, the dangers it brings and getting away from the control it can have over your life.

Soul-searchingly honest account of an alcoholics battle with alcoholism.
I have just finished reading this book and found it to be very honest and helpful in understanding the workings of an alcoholic's mind. What drives us to addictions? What makse it so hard to let go? Can this happen to any one of us at any time due to environmental factors or is it a fault in our genetics? Are we destined to be what we are from birth or do we create our own demons? The author is neither mauldling nor sympathy-seeking but gives account of his real life addiction and the devastating blow he was dealt as a result. Was he lucky that he has been given this chance to tackle his demons in such a brutal way or was this the cruel result of his weakness? Derek does not sit and wallow. He does something about it with what he has left, after the hurricane that is alcohol, that almost took his life. He literally got up from the wreckage and the debris and started walking again.
