Cuando yo lo leí, no había hablado en espanol para un año, y todavía yo podía leerlo bien. No solo es una buena segunda entrada a espanol, pero es un cuento muy interesante y verdad sobre la historia de California y los EEUU.

I've found all three books in this series good for learning Spanish. The stories are engaging. The vocabulary is "Goldilocks" not too hard, not too easy, just right. For me, about 500 new words a book. Means some pages i could make it trough fairly easily, others were harder, but none were impossible. Not too many idioms. I read the books on an iPad with the Collins dictionary app. Simply highlight any words you don't know, then copy the definition into the notes for later review. Then I use a flashcard program to practice the words. Also, make friends with some native speakers so when you run across an idiom you can figure it out. Helps to eat lots of Mexican food as well!

Love the series of books for reading Spanish. I wish his books were also on audible. I love to read and listen in Spanish to acquire the language. The stories are the life of the author growing up a migrant and now living the American Dream.

This is a true story of someone who started out with a hard life and now is a professor and writing about it. It is fun to read for the intermediate spanish student with only a few unfamiliar words. Those words are good to add to the vocabulary for future conversation.

Francisco Jimenez entered the United States as a youngster with his parents who were seeking a better life for the family. They lived in incredible poverty, moving around California, picking agricultural crops. Francisco did not get to go to school until the end of the season each year, often November. His persistence and hard work offered him the opportunity to rise out of poverty to get an education, help his family, and focus on the problems of farm worker conditions.

Bought after reading its sinopsis. Inspiring and beautiful story of self determination, family and institutional support. Did not stop reading until I finished it

A very moving story of an immigrant's moving away from home to go to college, A unique story but with lots of universal themes such as family, struggles to make ends meet, and love.

This book is such a beautiful book. As a Mexican American and child of immigrants, after reading this book I felt so inspired. Loved this book more than words could express.
