More nostalgia from the Genius!
I have always been fascinated by this guy's recordings ever since I heard To Know Him Is To Love Him and all the Teddy Bearsrecordings when in my early teens. Since then I have snapped up everything I can even though some of these tracks are a bit basic. He gave us the Crystals, Ronettes, the Righteous Brothers and many amazing songs in the sixties including the all-time classic 'River Deep Mountain High'. Many of the songs in this collection don't reach those heights but are very pleasant and nostalgic. It's a pity his life is ending in such a tragic way but he was always eccentric....but geniuses quite often are.

Now so glad I did mainly because the whole of the Crystals ...
Having paid mega bucks for the 'Back To Mono' set many years ago, initially I hummed and arred over whether to get this set.. Now so glad I did mainly because the whole of the Crystals first album 'Twisting Uptown' is here albeit with 2 tracks on vol.3 and the other 9 on vol.4. Also, comma 9 of the 10 Paris sisters Gregmark tracks are here too. One or two other nice surprises from the Philles singles catalogue. As you wuld expect from Real Gone the sound is good and clarity much better than on Back To Mono.Thankfully only two stereo tracks, both by Connie Francis, mono versions would have been welcome.

great collection, unpleasant sound
This is a terrific collection. I love the effort that goes into productions like this and the many gaps they fill in my collection. However, the jacket mentions 'enhanced sound quality'. Basically what I want is a clear presentation of the original, not something that has been additionaly engineered to make it, for example, louder, brighter, or bassier. After a few moments I had to switch off, because it seemed to me that there had been excessive intervention. I did a detailed comparison with other transfers of 'To know him is to love him', including the Back to Mono. All are vastly better. I'm afraid I cannot cope with the Real Gone sound. Others seem to like these issues and haven't complained about the sound, so maybe have a listen first.

Phil's Spectre?
A very comprehensive collection at a very affordable price. There are a couple of similar good sets around (Not Now Music and Jasmine) both of which I have as well as some previous things so there was not a lot of new material on it for me. However, beware.....if you think all Phil Spector productions are Wall of Sound, the early ones were not and you will be disappointed with this but if you like late 50's/early 60's pop and doo-wop you will be closer to the mark for this.
