BRITON 2003.SES Overhead Door Closer Silver Size 3

Well made: very tough and sturdy, and a strong action. We've fitted it on a heavy front door. It has two adjustments, for speed of general closing, and then the speed of the final few inches of latching action.The only downside is that those adjustments are only accessible before the final cover is attached. That's not so much of a problem if you can set it just as you like it in the beginning. While the installation of the item is pretty foolproof (there are self-adhesive templates to guide the six screw holes, and full instructions for four different kinds of mounting), the attachment of the cover is fiddly - two small screws at either end which are not easily lined up with the mounting holes inside. Having to then remove that to make finer adjustments to the closing speeds (reaching up or using a ladder) and re-attach it seems like a design flaw. Mind you, with the cover left off,the unit does have an appealing industrial look.One last (trivial) point. On our unit, the manufacturer's label (Briton 2003) had broken off. It seems to be designed to rotate so that it appears the right way up whether the thing is installed on a right or left opening door. (The image shown is as it would appear on a door opening inwards, hinges on the right.) Ours could well have been a returned item on which someone had attempted to rotate the label and broken its plastic peg. If it were not designed to rotate, then it would be upside down on a door opening the other way. It would be more sensible for the label to be separate and self-adhesive. Luckily we don't care that our door closer now appears to be anonymous.

Great closure arrived on time.

Bought 2 of these for my busy restaurant. Have been in constant use for the past 4 years and looking like it will easily last another 4. Installation is a bit fiddly if, like me, you're not too good with DIY. The instructions were relatively straightforward and it even comes with a template to mark the holes needed for drilling. However, once it is up it does the job perfectly. Pleasantly surprised with the fact you can adjust the speed and force with which the door closes. Good purchase.

Excellent value for a very good closure to fix to heavyweight fire doors.

Installed in a pub. Saves locals from having to get up and shut the door for those that live in barns. So far excellent, but time will tell if it is up to the duty demanded. Busy pub!

Fast delivery but terrible packaging. I thought it was used when I received the package, the box is definitely used but the context is new, see pictures....Yes it appears to be a quality product.
