I don't know why it's taken me so long to buy one of these Umbrella Swifts but I'm very glad I finally did. Tired with looping skeins of yarn over the backs of chairs or coercing family members to sit with outstretched arms in order for me to wind yarn, I decided that the time had come to stop prevaricating ("Oh, it's so expensive just for some bits of wood" and "I could buy several skeins of yarn for the same price - or, indeed, several books" and so on). This foldaway contraption works smoothly and swiftly and, with the matching ball-winder, produces lovely cakes of yarn that are a pleasure to use.5 Stars.

This swift is excellentI had recently bought this item for my mother to wind her yarn skein for her knitting projects.I had bought it as a replacement, as the previous plastic and metal swift she tried; had open metal rings holding the rib guide (the frame that holds the yarn) which the yarn would catch on whilst winding.This swift made winding yarn a pleasure as it was smooth and effortless i.e the yarn didn't catch on to any part of the swift

So glad I bought this to replace my cheaper metal version! It’s sturdy and well made, and the best bit is that it’s silent when in use!! Would I change anything? No! Is it worth the money? Absolutely!! I’m so happy with this purchase and know I’ll not need another as it will stand the test of time!

Gets my skeins wound at double speed! Only slight downside is it sometimes comes loose from the base if you go too fast!

Arrived in a box that stunk of vomit which had to be discarded immediately and I now have nowhere to store this item. Rather flimsy I expected better of this make. Does what it’s needed to do.

Makes the winding esier, better than the chairback I was previously using
