Carried me to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro
I am so happy I got these boots for my hike up Mt. Kili. I tried on at least 20 pairs of hiking boots from Merrell and other brands before I settled on this one. Its sole is the softest among all the boots (that's my personal preference) and still has strong support around sole and ankles. And the fit is the best. They hardly need break in. After 7 days on Kili hiking 8-10 hours a day, I successfully summited and came down - no pain, no ankle injury, no blisters, thanks to these boots.Ps I ordered half a size up because my feet swell after long hikes. The shoes are indeed water proof - walked in slushy ice in the crater of Mt Kilimanjaro for 3 hours and my feet were still dry.

PERFECT - DEFINITELY RECOMMEND
Story time. My friend and I have been planing for a 6 mile hiking trip. When I got these shoes I decided to break them in with a 4 mile walk. They did not need breaking in. They were very comfortable and supported my arches. No friction, and they had enough space for my feet to swell. Now for the hike. These boots saved me multiple times. At one point we were on rocks that were wet and slippery. I lost traction on some slime for a second but the shoes found grip immediately. There was also a point where my foot found uneven ground. Had I been wearing regular shoes my ankle definitely would have twisted, but these supported my ankle for that very reason. These shoes took me to some amazing views. They are comfortable, great for long distance, AND VEGAN! I can’t wait for my next hike with them ☺️

Great boot, comfortable but tough!
I highly recommend these boots. As a former Search and Rescue volunteer with thousands of boot miles in my past, I know what I like and what works for me: supportive but flexible with a tough sole and toe kick and plenty of toe box room. They also need to accommodate my orthotics/inserts. These boots fit the bill beautifully. I doubt I'll switch!

Merrell Moab 2 Mid GTX lost its luster
First let me give you some background on Merrell Moab GTX line, Merrell used to make the best hiking boot for the buck with little or no breakin time. But when they moved the manufacturing over to China the product has steadily gone downhill.I was a loyal customer for 15-20 years and have bought for my family 5 different sets of Merrell Moab GTX's through the years with changes in the model names through the years. But the last 3 years the quality has gone from mediocre to dismal. The sole is coming unglued from the body on the sides and the plastic toe is chafing off after less than a year or 5-10 uses or hikes. This is pathetic. Merrell the company refused to honor warranty after overlapping the year grace period by a few months of limited use due to the down Covid year. What is so sad is when it first came out, the first two pairs lasted 5 years at least through rough treatment but they were made of leather and not this cheap plastic polymer that comes out of China and is poorly glued. Sewed leather is replaced my plastic pressed together material probably under heat and cheaply glued. Not only this problem but for the first time I started developing toe compression and the shoe size on the boot hasn't changed from when I first started wearing Merrells 20 years ago.Tried lacing differently and added a 2nd sock but to no avail. Wearing these boots became agony. It is gut wrenching to see an American company sell out and not put a premium on quality. Sadly this is becoming indicative of the whole hiking shoe industry. No more Merrells again!

BEST HIKING BOOTS EVER
I went to the Roan Highlands in NC last month with my Merrell Blaze Aeros which are great water hiking shoes but failed at rocky mountain hikes because my ankles were rolling and twisting like crazy so I knew I needed more support. I got some Columbias but they were stiff and just didnt feel right. These Merrels matched the color and style of my Blaze so I took the plunge and got them. I literally could not shut up about these boots the entire hike. As you can see, my boyfriend was wearing sneakers and I had to walk ahead of him to let him know when something was muddy or wet, he was not a happy camper (literally) and I will be getting him some Merrells for our next hike. I did 2 days and about 15 miles on the Blue Ridge mountains, completed the Sam Knob mountain and Flat Laurel creek trails so these boots saw it all. This trail had lots of mud, rocks, climbs, and water. These boots took it all like a champ including fully submerging them in mud and creeks and they stayed completely dry and look brand new, I was absolutely blown away. The inserts are a bit too thin and tough for my taste so I replaced them with some Vomii memory foam insoles and it was the bees knees. The support is there, the grip is there, the style is there and they are comfy right out of the box. By the end of the hike my ankle did hurt a little but that's normal when breaking in new boots, especially when hiking such uneven and rocky terrain. I normally wear a 9-9.5 but I listened to the reviews and got a 10 and I'm glad I did because anything smaller would have been tight especially around the toe box especially because I wear them with thick Darn Tough socks. I love these boots so much I couldn't stop raving about them and said the first thing I would do when I got back home was write a review on them. Thank you Merrell for making the best hiking boots ever and best of all, they cost way less than the Salewas I was going to get.

Men's boots
You might think to yourself, wow, a pair of Merrell womens boots for under $150! Nope, sorry. When you add them to your cart, the description changes to men's boots. I decided to take one for them team, and order them anyways to see which description is correct. They arrived, and they are in fact men's boots. Keep looking, ladies.

Love, love, love Merrell!
Great grip on rocky terrain. Breaking in wasn't necessary. Comfortable right out of the box. Light weight, wide toe box, and waterproof. I usually wear 8W with custom orthotics. I use sock liners and medium thickness hiking socks so I sized up to 8.5W. Perfect! Excellent for people with plantar fasciitis. No rubbing, no foot pain after a 5-mile hike up and down the mountain.

Waterproof???? Really?!
I’ve had these boots for under 3 weeks and have only worn them 3-4 times . The weather has been dry each time but today the grass was heavily damp with dew (not rain!) and my socks are damp. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am . I did a 20 mile walk in them on Saturday, they were very comfortable, but if they can’t even cope with heavy dew they are sadly not fit for purpose in this country! I will be trying to find out if I can return them for a full refund as I am an all weather walker and these will be useless to me.

Great boots so far (his and hers)
[Update Jan 2021]I know this review is getting a bit long to read, but it's based on several years of use by myself and my wife of these boots and hopefully helpful for what is an important and relatively costly purchase. Thx.Just wanted to add that whilst these boots are great in most conditions, they do not have a very deep cut sole. It's good quality but in muddy conditions can clog quickly. Had this yesterday on a muddy chalky walk where I ended up tumbling a couple of times. I'm usually steady on my feet and to be fair I don't know that boots with a deeper cut sole would have been any better. There were lots of marks on the track where others were having the same issue.Would also like to comment on the reviews that say these are not waterproof. I can say categorically after years wearing them and walking through streams, that they ARE.If someone gets a pair that are not, just get them replaced. It's a fault with that pair not the design or materials. I had a pair replaced by Merrell after they split (I think on a rock) and this damaged the Goretex. It's also worth saying that waterproof boots (or clothes) can still feel wet. If the outer is soaking wet you'll still feel some cold and damp even if no water has actually gotten in. It can feel like socks are damp (my wife notices more than me).Try with a piece of tissue inside to check whether they are actually leaking or not. We only notice this if wading or walking though long wet grass (i.e. not really in rain). It's still worth having because a) it's a short damp feeling and b) the outer will dry out quicker than if the inner and your stock was soaked.[Update November 2021]My wife has continued to use these boots for our walks near home and last year for a few months in France (waterproofing not really required for either). We’ve just got back from a week in the Lakes where we did a lot of walking on flooded paths, bogs and the usual quite stony terrain etc. Both her and my boots stayed dry throughout (we do usually wear waterproof gaiters covering part of the upper), but that’s to protect trousers from mud rather than because the boots need it. Both her and my boots remain comfortable and are mostly holding up well (soles linings etc). My wife uses custom insoles, but I have the standard Merrell in (despite having used more supportive insoles in other boots). The only additional negative I’ll add is that the trim on the uppers (I.e the leather-look strappy bits over the mesh) has not held up well. The upper surface has just flaked and peeled off on hers. Seems to happen when cleaning (even if just sprayed with a hose). Unsightly, but does not affect performance.[Update: Dec 2018. Were managing to get at least one walk in a week since buying these averaging 6-9 miles now. Both of us find the boots supremely comfortable. My wife had some minor pressure under one toe on an 11 mile walk, but nothing major. We've not been out in downpours but wet grass and the odd stream splash has not been an issue. I would add to my review below that the soles are good and grippy in most conditions, but not as stiff as a heavier boot, so you will feel a rocky surface through them slightly. Not a problem, just trying to give a better impression of what these are. We have not done any walking with more than a day sack so far and only short easy scrambles.]Bought for my wife after I bought a men's pair. Both of us found the boots comfortable out of the box. My wife has quite a wide forefoot and a bunion on one foot, but no problems so far. I bought mine after having to give up walking for a while because I developed an issue with my heel rubbing in my (well-known major brand name) leather boots meaning I had to pre-pad or put Compeed on after about a mile on the trail. I spent ages travelling to specialists (Alt-Berg/George Fisher) trying to get a solution. Different lacing, socks, insoles did not help. I tried all the boots I could in store but no one could tell me whether or not I'd be OK with them.Rather than wasting a pot of cash on boots like that, I went for these as they were a little bit less of a financial disaster if they were no good. Glad I did as I've had no problem with the heel in these. We've just got back from a few days in the Lakes where we used them everyday for moderate walks over mixed ground including some rocky sections. Did a great job. I developed a slight pressure on one little toe towards the end of an 8 mile walk on which I'd done some sections as fast as I could over all terrains. I'd say that's not bad at all.My wife mentioned some damp feeling on one boot after crossing a shallow stream, but we're not sure yet if there was any leak of if this was just the damp cold feeling you can get with most Goretex when the outer gets wetted out. Being a fabric/mesh I suppose this is more likely to happen quicker than a well-treated leather. There doesn't seem to be any kind of DWR on the outer on these. But there's always the Gore-tex guarantee to lean on if needed. We both found the soles made crossing rocky sections quite comfortable, easy and fast. So far so good - will update if any issues (I do actually update my reviews if things change ratehr than just say it :-) ).

Best Ladies Boots in this range hands down.
I could write all day about these boots but sometimes it is better to keep it short. I have been badgering my better half to get up in hills and outside with me for years and she has been bemoaning how she would if she had a decent pair of boots. I had had a pair of Merrells since uni a couple of decades ago and though they were still going strong they had lost their comfort and my feet had over time changed shape so I was also in the market for a replacement. It was in that vein that I undertook my usual days of research and bought what I thought would be the best pair of Merrell ladies walking boots available outside of specialist snow, ice & crampon range ie professional or winter boots. These boots appeared to tick all the boxes but after day 1 of her wearing them on a short 10km trial my good lady wife simply said, “ These are the best pair of boots I have ever put on my feet. I love them. I will never buy anything else ever again!”

Great for wide feet
I have the worlds most difficult feet. They are wiiiiiiide, and flat with narrow heels. A bit like a duck. So good walking shoes are not easy to come by. I hadn't tried Merrel before having tried some on a few times with no luck. But this time I was after a lighter weight pair of walking boots that i could wear around town but also get away with a major hike in fair conditions. They aren't waterproof, but are really good boots. Very comfy. I ummed and arred over the fitting and went for a half size bigger in the end. I'm glad i did. Love them, would buy again. Happy for them to wear out at this price. EDIT: I'm adding this extra note after purchasing a second pair. They don't last very long so don't pay too much for them. And they are only waterproof a bit at the start, but wear soon looses this (even with waterproofing and good treatment). I bought a second pair as i find it hard to get boots that fit well and they are good, but one of the lace loops broke after just a couple of months (Amazon refunded some of the cost, thanks) so be aware of poor manufacturing.

No blisters yay
Previously I have only bought a cheap pairs of walking boots from sports direct. Which I regretted instantly. Every time I wore them I had blisters. I had sore feet.So after much reading of reviews I decided to buy these. Although I am an average every day person and actually would never dream of paying almost 90 quid on some shoes for myself. I decided to bite the bullet. I walk 4-5 miles daily with my dogs and wanted something to keep my feet dry and comfortable. After reading all the reviews I got half a size above my usual size 5. Also purchased some waterproof spray.I used these the very next day they arrived and have been amazed. They are very comfortable and my feet are wider than normal. I used the waterproof spray so dont actually know if they are waterproof but my feet have been bone dry. I've not had a single solitary blister and have worn these almost daily since I got them. I actually doubt i will buy another make now. So its 5***** from me
