My favorite way to enjoy this Java John's coffee is as a cold brew. I feel like this is the best way to get the most flavor out of it because it's a medium roast and it's sweetness. For hot coffee, it leaves me wanting just a little bit more, though I tend to gravitate to bolder dark roasts, I enjoy it. If I'm preparing a hot cup of pour-over, I like to add in a little bit of dark roast. It is not acidic tasting to me like a lot of other medium roast blends, and I can definitely pick up on the sweeter notes and cocoa. I prepare my hot coffee with some cream and sugar normally, and I have to be careful about the amount of sweetener I put in because it can go from tasty to almost sickeningly sweet quickly because of the sweeter notes already in the coffee.

While I usually drink lattes, Java John's Roasts House Blend (Whole Bean) does not need any adornments. I drink it black and it is simply a darn good cup of coffee.Most coffee bags have no way to seal them but this one comes with a built in zip lock to keep the beans fresh.

I got the ground version of this coffee. It comes in an easy to reseal bag. The bag doesn't really tell you what to expect flavor-wise. I tried it black first and it was a little acidic at the end and tastes like a medium roast to me. I didn't really taste the peanut and cocoa notes until I added a little vanilla creamer to it. With the creamer, it really brought out the cocoa notes and tasted nice and smooth for me. Overall, was pretty good coffee and would definitely make this again.

This 12 oz. package of beans arrived well-sealed and nicely fresh, with a (roasting and packaging?) date on the bag that was just 1 month earlier. The House Blend smelled very good, if a bit darker roasted than expected. Brewing produced a dark, richly flavored coffee with a relatively dark roast flavor but without burnt notes. The price gives me pause, but this is very good coffee.

"Ethically sourced" from unspecified locations, the beans arrived with a best by date that was 11 months away, and they looked and smelled fresh. They have a light sheen, not overly oily, nor overly dry, and once ground and brewed they produced only a small amount of oil in the coffee.Coffee can taste differently depending on how its ground, water used, and preparation type, so for reference I thoroughly cleaned my grinder to remove residue of previous beans, used a setting of 5 on the grinder to produce a medium fine grind, and then used RO filtered water in my Keurig coffee maker.This produced a thoroughly enjoyable cup of smooth tasting coffee with pleasant hints of caramel and little aftertaste. The coffee was nicely roasted without having any bitter taste. It seems to have low acid as it didn't cause any heartburn or gastric upset, so I think it's a nice blend to wake up to or have over dessert in the evening.

We drink a lot of coffee/espresso, not being a connoisseur, I am not overly picky about beans, but I do know I don't like the "burnt" flavor." These beans pack a flavorful punch, especially when freshly ground! My husband had to cut back on the amount he uses per cup because it was too bitter and acidic when prepared in his usual manner. Once he figured out an appropriate amount of grounds, the liquid produced was warm and cozy, with notes of cocoa-like sweetness interlaced with the strong coffee flavor. It’s a very fresh and bold way to start the morning!

We’ve been trying a lot of different whole bean coffees lately and was excited to get this house blend from Java John’s. Was expecting the blend to be more on the bold side since that usually takes over when mixed with a medium and/or blonde roast. The grind is easy and the taste is excellent for this type of bean. There really is a chocolate milk note when creamer is added. I was sitting next to my wife, who drinks her coffee with a creamer, and I was sure I smelled hot chocolate wafting my way. Pretty amazing. We’ve had this coffee the last four mornings and really like it.
