Seems like a great idea, but..
I was excited to try this, thinking it'd be the perfect happy medium between a huge camera gear backpack and carrying things in a makeshift way. In the pictures it looks like it holds a bunch of stuff. It seems pretty well made and the padding/softness is sufficient to feel comfortable lugging around in a bag.Upon my first attempts to use it, though, it strikes me that it's an unideal size that's kind of the worst of both worlds. I'll explain. In a way, it's bigger than you might think -- so much so that none of my numerous backpacks can comfortably fit this insert when loaded with camera stuff. Or if it does fit, it takes up so much of the bag that I can barely use the bag for anything else. And yet, it's still small enough that I can only put my Canon EOS R and kit lens in one side, and there's enough room at the other side for *one* spare lens. No room for batteries or any other accessories. I already have a sling bag with more compartments than this. Since I can neither fit this insert comfortably into a backpack nor do I really have enough carrying capacity to make it worth the trouble, I'll be sending it back since it's not really of any value to me.I guess I'd be better off with a dedicated camera backpack, even though I don't currently have a ton of gear. I would suspect the same to be true for a lot of people, yet there are a bunch of really positive reviews so I guess other people had different expectations.

Lots of padding but velcros don’t provide enough security.
I love the shape, color, size, and padding. Unfortunately since this is being used in my backpack, the lack of a handle to help pull it out made it not ideal for my purposes as I would grab the top and since it’s only secured via Velcro this would sometimes open the cube and loose smaller items would fall out. I wish it had a zipper to close the cube as opposed to just two strips of Velcro. The lack of security and handle were enough for me to return it.

Good camera gear insert for my backpapck
Very good product. Fits a bit snugly in my pack but not the fault of the insert. I wish the sides had more rigidity to account for potentially tight fits. worth the money.

No nonsense padding system for making your own camera bag.
For the price, it's a perfectly reasonable padded insert that provides you the opportunity to make your own camera bag that suits your individual needs. The size is practical and allows me to carry a sensible photography kit (it's not my goal to travel with every single lens I own) in a normal 27L to 33L school or day trip backpack. (I'm using the L.L. Bean Quad Pack) with lots of room in the backpack for other things. The main portion of the insert appears to have a water resistant shell (I'm not going to test it), but the attached lid is just a light fabric over padding. There are no zippers, just two velcro tabs that can be used to keep the lid down. The lid is not detachable. The lid is well padded and the tabs can also be folded under to make accessing the contents easier (the velcro is very adherent to the liner fabric, I just want to easily flip the lid when it's deep in my backpack). You can also just fold the lid all the way open.In my case, it's a Canon 80D w/EF-S 24mm attached, plus EF-S 10mm-18mm and an EF 85mm with room to spare for some minor accessories (other items are elsewhere in the backpack). As a couple of the pictures show, I could also put the EF 70mm-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM in there as well if I wanted to lug it around. For the price, it does what it needs to do. The only minor improvements I'd have like to have seen is a water resistant lid as well, and perhaps two side handles to make extracting the insert from a backpack easier. I looked at the specs for several competing insert systems, but this one was the only one I was confident would have the space.

Perfect for what I needed.
I bought this to pack my camera gear into a G4Free Hiking Backpack (5 Stars also - see review) for a fishing trip to a fly in wilderness camp in NE Ontario. This insert held a Nikon D5300 body with battery grip, a 70-300mm Zoom, an 18-53mm zoom, an 11-16mm Wide angle zoom, and a 50mm prime as well as my cased memory cards and a cleaning kit. My batteries, chargers, power banks, solar panel and cables were stored in other areas of the G4Free Backpack. The insert fit perfectly on the bottom of the Backpack and was easily accessible when I needed items. I liked that it had a top (some of the ones I looked at didn't have a top) and that the top had just two Velcro tabs to hold the top down - this kept miscellaneous stuff out of the case but made the case easy to access. The bottom of my Pack got wet a couple of times but it never affected my camera gear that was packed in the bottom of the pack. When I ordered it I was worried that either the insert would be too big for the backpack or the insert would be too small to carry what I wanted - all my worries were unfounded. Thanks DRF and G4Free for your dependable and economical gear, when looking for another insert DRF will be the first place I look.

It Depends
Well constructed and will serve my needs as an insert into my Lowepro backpack for carrying camera/lenses. That said, it won't hold all that much. I can fit a camera body and one lens or two lenses with no body.

Good option
I have a bag that I love because I can carry both of my cameras & accessories. But there wasn't any cushion in it. I thought about buying a new camera bag, but I Love my Jeep bag. I bought this & am happy I did. It fits beautifully in my current bag & both cameras fit in the cushion.

Fits camera body and 2 lenses (one attached)
In the picture is my GH5II with Leica Kit lens attached, and the lumix 100-300mm lens next to them. I wouldn't try to squeeze more stuff in there. If you want to hold more stuff I would recommend a larger bag.
