Acid

Finest Belgian metal
After the emergence of the NWOBHM in the late 1970s, Heavy metal took a strong hold in continental Europe. Among the finest acts at the time -early 1980s- we can find Acid, a Belgian band who released this eponymous album in 1982. A female singer gave their music a distinctive sound, but what we have here is some speed/heavy metal as good as anything produced around the time in the UK or the US, proving that, by then, metal was truly becoming a global phenomenon, in a way no other musical current had been up to that point... This album, from start to finish, doesn't give you a break: aggressive and somewhat elegant, at the same time. They went on to do many other albums, but this first opus retains a particular charm to it.

A forgotten gem
Glad to see this long lost band out there on CD. No mention is made unfortunately of whether or not this is remastered which is info i would like to have had - however, even if its not then thats ok cos the original production on this bands albums were pretty good. Coming out just before metallicas debut and influenced obviously by the likes of motorhead and venom, this band were right there at the start of the thrash movement and really should have a lot more recognition than they did. Some great stuff on here - highlights being the relentless double kick-drumming 'anvil' and the full on racket that is 'demon' - its slightly amateurish at times as regards songwriting but in a charming kinda way. Acid were a female fronted act with very tidy musicianship from all involved - its rough, raucous, and a lot of fun - this and their follow-up 'maniac' (also now available) are highly recommended by anyone into the roots of thrash metal. 'Maniac' itself features the awesome 'black car' surely one of the all-time great HM tracks. Dunno if this lot are still going as i have heard no more about them since and theres not much info to be found about them online, but they left some great music behind them. Buy both!
