I have not noticed any bees at all related to this feeder. The humming birds love it! I've had mine for several months now.

It may. There are threads on it to twist and attach the top to the bottom. It's actually very nice and the metal is much sturdier than the plastic. I highly recommend this feeder.

I don’t know what material the silver part of the base is. It is a very hard silver colored material. The red bottom of the base is plastic. The center holes of the red flowers are held securely in place by tiny gold grommets or factory installed glue. The glass part is heavy glass. I was surprised at the dark color of the glass when I received it, but I am getting used to it and more importantly the hummingbirds like it. They use that feeder frequently every day. I’ve seen them as early as 6 am and as late as 7 pm.

Q: Does the metal part get too hot in the sun for the birds to sit on it?

My hummingbirds love to use the perch, and I live in Southern Arizona. The metal perch is silver colored so it does not heat up much due to sunlight itself. If it were too hot they could eat from it very well without using the perch since they are hummingbirds.
