These shoes are a definite upgrade from the old standard black canvas Mary-Jane type flats. I love that the sole is flexible and thicker, so it doesn’t feel like I am walking around on thin wood planks. The insoles are not as cushy as I would have liked, but I can always add some, especially since there is a bit of wiggle room.The buckles are not nearly as bad as several of the reviewers have made them out to be, though it is a bit hard to back the strap out or pull it tighter. But once they are “buckled”, they stay firmly, and don’t loosen up.I also did not have an issue with them being stinky, I didn’t notice any odor at all when I removed them from the box. And the velvet is really nice! Overall, I am very pleased with the quality of these shoes, especially since they were so inexpensive.

I was really surprised by these shoes. I purchased them for a sci fi convention where I'd be on my feet all day, and I didn't have time to take them for a test drive before the event. While I'd been hopecful that they'd be comfortable, I had a bad feeling that I'd try them on and end up leaving them at home so I could wear sneakers instead. I was super happy that they seemed like they'd last all day and night. And they did!These shoes have a good sized rubber sole. While the top portion is the standard fabric and style of the flat soled "china flats" that they used to sell when I was a kid (and still sell here as mary janes, and I do own a few pairs that I keep in my purse for inside shoes when I am visiting others), they are not a support shoe. They don't have an arch inside, but the rubber sole is comfortable, and these are far more comfortable than any of my other shoes. FAR more comfortable than converse.The strap is long enough that it doesn't get uncomfortable on the top of my feet, and they are roomie without being too loose. I generally wear a size 9, but many size 9s are too narrow, even though 9 wides are usually too wide. These were great for me with my in-between size, but folks who have very narrow feet will probably have to cinch the strap more tightly. If you love Clarks with their more narrow fit, don't buy these shoes!I have not worn these shoes outdoors. They are not weather appropriate for the Boston area rain because of the velvet, and they would get pretty dusty back where I used to live where it rarely rained.I've I've recommended them to several friends, and I have been coming back hoping more colors come in (right now they only come in black). I might buy a second pair in black so that when I go to conventions and events where I will be inside all day, I can wear one pair Saturday and one pair Sunday so they have time to air out and don't get smelly ;-)The shoes are well constructed, but I don't expect them to last forever. They are not the highest quality. However, these are my new go-to mary janes for any day that it's not raining or dusty or snowy out! I might even buy ANOTHER pair to put under my desk at work for if I forget to bring shoes when I wear snow/rain boots to work.

The minute I received these, I put them on. I even love that they came with another layer of insoles to place in the shoes. These shoes are sooooo comfortable as well as cute. I really wasn’t expecting them to be this comfortable. Since I work more from home, I needed a fall shoe to wear around the house only. I really don’t see them stretching out of place. The buckle is easier than people think. Adjust the strap. Just slip the strap into the silver buckle and lock into place. Don’t over think it. Removing it is easy to. Just slip the strap out of the buckle. I wish this shoe came in other colors. ☺️

I wore this style in the 70's & 80's. after looking at many options, I chose these are they have a little lift in the heel instead of completely flat-but, in the photo, the heel looks higher than the shoe I received. I like that they seem more streamline in the toe area than the 'old style' ones I had back in the day & some of the others like this for sale that have a round fat toe area &, don't cover the 'seams' of your toes, these do. ALTHOUGH..it is not mentioned that they are Velvet..it reads "cotton', sure velvet has cotton, but I didn't expect all velvet-downside. I am wondering if they sent me the wrong shoes as the brand name stated is Old Bejing, the tags on the shoes is XYZ, and the name on the box is Missfiona....

I wore china flats as a teenager and into my 20's before realizing my lower back issues were due to wearing them. These are more like real shoes, have tread, very flexible and very comfortable. I bought the equivalent of a nine and was worried they might be too tight (thanks other reviewers for reporting they are true to size). They fit perfectly! I teach and run around a large campus, harbor. These are perfect because they are cute and velvet and dressy but yet I can go from classroom to hiking a coastal trail with zero problems. I have also worn them to a concert and they totally looked dressy. Price and value can't be beat! yes, they do squeak but I don't care. If you need to walk silently or have echoes in a hallway, then buyer beware

These shoes are soft and beautiful -- and SO COMFY! These was no break-in time -- these were comfortable all day from the very first day. I wore them on a rainy day and they got completely soaked when I stepped in an ankle-deep puddle. Once home, I simply set them on a wire shoe rack to dry and they were "right as rain" the next day. The mud caked around the edges brushed right off once the shoes were dry and they looked as good as new. This is my second pair. I have worn the first pair almost every day for over a year and they still look like new. These are the perfect travel shoes -- one pair to pack that will work for casual or dressy occasions. I wore expensive Naturalizers and SoftSpots for decades but these soft little beauties have become my all around favorite shoes!

They didn't fit as expected and were uncomfortable and so I shall give them to a friend.. not expensive and a bit more upmarket in appearence than similar house shoes worn in the past. Before buying I'd go up a size.

Ordered these for my daughter half a size up and they fit. The straps are a bit annoying but are adjustable. The shoes are velvet and kind of have a liquorice smell to them. They were almost a month late coming from China.
