Helpful and informative
When I first picked up this book I knew it would be perfect some of my family members who dread flying. My hope was to pass this book onto them or develop a few tips to possibly help anyone I saw in distress on a flight. I was not disappointed. The section on false alarm fear is helpful and I feel can be transferred to other situations as well. It allows the reader to look at a given situation and evaluate if their initial reaction matched the outcome. If you fear something and nothing bad happens, you can come to terms with how you approach a situation in the future.Coming to terms with the fear and anxiety is important to the learning to fly process. The book is filled with sections and prompts to write out feelings to help establish a “why” and hopefully brrak down unhelpful patterns. Carbonell wrote a book that is easy to absorb and allows the reader to revisit sections that were useful to them.

This was a great book for me
This was a great book for me. If you have anxiety or a fear of flying, this book may help you work through those feelings and fears. The Fear Of Flying Workbook author explains the difference between fears, anxieties and phoebias. I am happy that these feelings are solvable. First, what type of fear is there and then working with that fear. Yes/no questions are asked and some fill in answers are required to figure just what kind of fear you might have. Mine is, losing control. My favorite sentence in this book is, “The first is that this fear is your problem, bit it’s not your fault.” It is under the Two Main Points of Fear, page 37. If you are afraid to fly, but have to, I recommend getting this book and working through it. It helps you understand yourself more. Some places you just can not drive or have to get there fast and flying is the only answer.

would recommend this workbook to friends looking to work on their fear of flying
I’ve been afraid of heights my entire life. So naturally, the idea of flying terrified me for the longest time (and I managed to avoid it until college). Even now, with a few flights under my belt, flying is still an uncomfortable experience, filled with fear, anxiety, and illness. That’s why I’m really excited about this workbook. I want to fly and travel, but I know that dreading the flight will only spur the trip. Reading this workbook was fascinating to me - I liked learning about the psychology of fear and ways to engage with and overcome that fear. I also found the question and answer parts helpful for distilling my own anxieties. In particular, I found it useful to answer the questions posed as I went along, so I could analyze my answers when reading Dr. Carbonell’s explanations and observations. While fears are individual and can vary from person to person, I would recommend this workbook to friends looking to work on their fear of flying.

Fantastic!
I really loved this book. For me, conquering my fear of flying is a work in progress. I have yet to fly since I decided to really put in the work to overcome this fear. But I can tell you my anticipatory fear is much much less!!! I started my journey finding out about the safety of flying and the training of pilots. For that, you can use videos or another book such as Cockpit Confidential or A Pilot’s Guide for Fearful Flyers by Chris Manno. Videos on youtube by captain Chris Manno and other pilots were also helpful. In addition, I listen to podcast LoveFly on Apple. However this workbook was the missing piece for me. It really talked about the psychology behind what fearful flyers go through. It made me realize Im not that crazy! My fear is pretty normal and I know why I have it. The exercises are great and the worksheets in the back for when you fly will be with me when I fly soon! I love ch 11 “Handling Fear on board the plane.” There is just sooo much more that this book taught me. I am grateful to Dr. Carbonell for writing it.

Fear to comfort.
I used to fly and travel a lot, but recently developed a real fear of flying. I had a rough flight and afterward couldn’t stop thinking about the next one and the more I thought about it the bigger the fear of flying grew. It was bad enough, like you, I searched for a book about fear of flying. I felt like this book knew me better than I knew myself and described exactly the things I was thinking and doing that were increasing my fear of ever getting on a plane again. For me this book helped me to understand and talk down the fear and then offered specific strategies to not just get thru a flight, but to relax and enjoy being on a plane again. I am writing this review from a different city (that I flew to) and my world is feeling a whole lot bigger and safer than it did a few months ago. With deep gratitude I give a big thank you to the author for this amazing workbook.

I found this workbook both very useful and educational
I found this workbook both very useful and educational. I, personally, have a small fear of flying based on a fear of the plane crashing and myself dying. I learned in this book that there is a second group of people who are afraid of flying: folks who fear the experience of flying on a plane and how they will react to it. For instance, they are afraid they'll freak out and have to be restrained by crew or that they'll cause some kind of disturbance due to fear. I had no idea that this group of people existed, and now have a better understanding of how they struggle with flying. The workbook was totally user-friendly, not condescending at all. David Carbonell walks you through examining your fear and then explains the biological science and psychology behind it. From this, you learn how to work through your fear, in a productive and effective manner. Honestly, I found it useful in relation to other anxieties and fears as well. I highly recommend this workbook.

Thank you!
This book has been the best thing that has happened to me. I used to be a fearless flier and randomly, couple years ago, I developed a fear. Over the years fear got worse with every flight I took to the point where after my last one, I wasn’t sure I could do it again. But I had a friends wedding coming up, 4 hour flight away. I honestly was losing sleep, I had daily anxiety months before, telling my partner I may not attend the wedding. But then I found this book 2 weeks before the wedding. From the very 1st chapter I knew that this was so different from any other anxiety book I have read. It explained why I developed this fear randomly and why it carried on getting worse - I was dealing with it wrong all along! And so I was able to take the flight. And so now I am writing this review after I returned from my friend’s wedding and I am so glad I was able to make it. It is literally the best thing! And I recommend to all determined to fly again.
