Kettle Fur Collector (Pack of 2)

This is one of the funny gadgets that actually works. I first discovered these fur collectors about ten years ago. Thanks to multiple moves, giving extras as gifts, and burning my last one together with the teapot (happens when you chat too long with a neighbor over a fence) I was left with none. It was fairly easy to find a source for this item, and unsurprisingly had to be ordered from the UK, a land known for tea drinking and tea kettles. When used in a brand new, fur-less kettle, this little bundle of wires will keep the kettle's inside pristine and clear of any calcium or mineral buildup. To ensure I always have a backup collector, I ordered 4 of them (2 per package). Naturally, my sister is moving, so there goes one of my extras as a house-warming gift. Well, she's also getting an expensive new kettle, so I'm not as chintzy as one might think.Honestly, this is one of those clever inventions that you never knew you needed until you got your first one. Just remember that the fur collector works only in a clean new kettle--these wire "beans" do not have the muscle-power to remove existing mineral buildup.

put one in a cup of water to get rid of the strong metal (coin) smell.Notice small bits of metal floating in the water so i imagine you will have bits flake off - i assume steel is safe to eat in tiny quantities?Think i will throw away and use white vinegar

These are so loose they couldn't catch a fish and ended up in the bin.

Cannot say I have noticed any difference since adding 2 of these to my kettle but I do live in a very hard water area (perhaps I need more lol).
