Great update for Windows 10
I bought this system when I had to upgrade to Windows 10, as the old Hauppauge PCI card I had wouldn’t work. Installed easily and picture is good, even on an indoor aerial. When the software installation instructions say "disable any anti-virus software" do it! I didn’t fully disable mine, and the first installation failed. Afterwards it was perfect. I use the system to watch TV when wifey is monopolising the lounge, or to listen to news programs on the radio in the background whilst working. The supplied remote lets down the whole package, and I would gladly have paid a little more for a remote with easier use and more functionality. Fortunately for me I was able to use 90% of the functions of my previous remote with the new system. All in all, I’m very happy with my purchase.

Perfect for the job
I have used Hauppauge Win tv cards on all my PC's over the years. I find them easy to set up and tune to my requirements using the latest Hauppauge drivers.I'm presently using the HVR 5525 tv card directly connected to my Sky HD box via S.video and audio cables using the supplied dongle which allows me to use my Windows 10 PC monitor as a normal tv, or to watch it in the corner of my screen while I do other things with my computer. A double click on the Win tv screen instantly changes the screen from full TV size to a window as small as you wish to make it, or vice versa. There is no need for the supplied Hauppauge remote if you connect to the Sky box as you simply use the Sky remote to change channels as per normal. To connect to a Sky box, most set top boxes, video players or cameras, you need a tv card with an analogue input such as the HVR 5525 which is perfect for the job.You can, of course, also connect the card to an outside aerial via the RF connection and it will tune to available digital freeview channels, and then using the Hauppauge remote control to select your channel of choice. In my experience you must use a good outdoor aerial for decent freeview digital reception with a TV card. I have never had much success with any kind of indoor aerial.I haven't tried the satellite connector as I have no need for it but I am sure it will work as intended. So if you're looking to have your PC monitor double up as a TV or want to watch or make copies of your personal videos then the Hauppauge HVR 5525 is a good choice.

Good quality video capture
Easy to install and set up. Wide choice of recording options so may take a bit of practice to get the settings that look good for you but results are worth the setup time

Great TV card, but programme info missing from Freesat!
Until recently, I had an HVR-2205 DVB-T/DVB-T2 tuner card fitted to my computer, but now I'm using a Freesat sattelite dish instead of a Freeview aerial, , so I decided to upgrade to the HVR-5525. The card was easy to fit into a free PCIe slot, just like the 2205, with the half-height bracket fitted. The unit only needs a 1x slot, so it will work in any size PCIe slot. It also comes with an optional full-height bracket. It has an F-connector for the connection to the LNB, and a coax connector for freeview, cable, analogue TV & FM radio. It also has a mini-DIN socket for the a/v connections, and a mini-jack for the IR detector. A mini-DIN plug-Phono cordset is supplied for the A/V connections, and also an IR receiver & remote control. So far, I have used the tuner for Freeview and Freesat, and it seems to work pretty well with Win-TV 8, which was already installed on my computer. It took about 11 minutes to set up 129 Freeview channels. The channel list has a useful feature whereby you can move channels up or down in the list, so you can have all your favourites near the top. You can also delete any channels you don't want. For Freesat, I connected one output of my dual LNB to the card, and other to the freesat box connected to my TV. In the setup menu, I selected the Astra 2 sattelite and started the scan. The tuner took about half an hour to find 670 channels, many of which were encrypted, so not viewable. The picture quality is excellent, although it tales a few seconds to switch between channels. Annoyingly, the EPG doesn't seem to work, and in fact there isn't even any information available about the programme currently being viewed! Clicking the 'i' button just displays the current channel, but no programme info, which is rather disappointing.I later upgraded to WinTV 10 which I downloaded from the Hauppauge website and activated using the supplied activation code. WinTV 10 performs better than version 8 with this tuner, and switching between channels is faster. However, it takes a little while to 'warm up' when you open the application- from the time you click on it till you can watch TV takes about 20-40 seconds. I havn't tried out the remote control yet.The record function saves files to .ts (Transport Stream) format, rather than .mp2 (MPEG-2), as written in the description. There is an option to auto-convert these to MPEG-2 in the settings, but I havn't figured out how this works yet.Despite a couple of annoying problems, I'm very happy with this tuner card, and have given it a 5/5 star rating.
