Amazon refused to refund on a defective product
This was the worst service I have ever received on an Amazon purchase. Please note that my complaint is not with the driver but with Amazon and their customer support and with their vendor SPORT +. The item was a Taylor Made Stealth 2 Plus Driver. The item was defective and broke within two weeks and I was unable to get a refund. I purchased the driver on 8/19/23 for $671.73 from Amazon and their vendor SPORT +. I played with the driver twice and on 9/2/23 while I was hitting balls on the driving range the driver head cracked on the bottom. Not a small crack, but a complete separation by the seam. The club was obviously defective. It was not abused in any way, and did not make contact with anything but a golf ball. I contacted Amazon explaining that the driver was defective just asking for a replacement. In return I received a shipping label and a message that said "We've accepted your return request. Once SPORT + receives the item below, we'll issue a refund to your original payment method." Since they acknowledged my refund, I bought the exact same driver again from Amazon and SPORT +. The defective driver was returned on 9/5/23 and SPORT + received it on 9/6/23. On 9/12/23 having not received my refund, I contacted Amazon where I was assured that the refund would be coming within 48 hours. No refund. Followed up with Amazon on 9/15/23 and provided additional info. On 9/16/23 I was told by Amazon that the refund was denied because the driver was received by SPORT + damaged. Of course it was damaged, that was why I returned it. Spoke with Amazon by phone on 9/16, 9/18, 9/20 and 9/24. Each time, the Amazon rep told me that I was correct and I would receive a refund. On 9/18 I received a refund of $358.11. It appears that they charged me a 50% restocking fee. First, there should be no restocking fee on a defective item, secondly 50% is a crazy restocking fee, and thirdly this is a very popular driver and not the kind of item that should even have a restocking fee. Mainly though, whoever heard of a restocking fee on a defective item. After my last contact with Amazon I was told that the rest of my refund was denied because "The A-to-z Guarantee protects buyers when they do not receive an item or an item does not match its description. Although we understand your disappointment, you received the item and the item matched its description." I am not denying that I received the item or that it matched the description. The claim was because the item was defective. In any event I feel Amazon and SPORT + have not conducted themselves well in denying a full refund on a defective product. I have never had an issue with Amazon before and this has left an extremely bad taste in my mouth.
