On His Majesty's Secret Service (James Bond 007)

Young Bond with Dirty Words
It’s ok but to me it reads like a young adult novel where the author is allowed to include adult language, etc. It’s competent but it’s been well publicized it was written in a rush. For this reason I can’t decide if I’d like Higgins to write another Bond novel. I think probably not.

James Bond is back and in brilliant form!
I saw some negative reviews before reading this and I have to say, Higson created a fleeting spy adventure that is relevant and does not slant into political opinions. It resonates with recent situations that most of us are well versed on, whether we take sides or merely are up to date on current affairs.Bond himself is so well written here, like Fleming had a fellow author acquaintance whom he permitted the rights to create a standalone novel within his beloved series. Granted, On His Majesty’s Secret Service isn’t a full length novel, but it feels like one and I really hope that Higson continues writing more for the series. Two of the best Bond books released in roughly a year (looking at you Horowitz). What’s not to be excited about?

Great!
I am so glad they finally let Charlie Higson write a Bond novel. His Young Bond series was great. This book is short and to the point. And the villain and the villains' plot are timely. Bond fights the greatest enemy mindset of our time. Well done.

Bond is Back
OHisMSS is an excellent and exciting James Bond novel. Charlie Higson knows James Bond up and down, and he demonstrates that through the entire book. I especially like the way the story ended. I extremely hope that Mr. Higson will be given the chance to write additional James Bond adventures.

Rushed. Authors bragging rights at first to title.
Very thin boring plot, terrible characterization and too on the nose mentioning of current day trends. This to me sounded like someone who wanted to push the book out to capitalize on the newly crowned king and the first to say they released a story with the title of On HIS Majesties Secret Service. Also it felt like the author was pushing his own political views and current trends and events into the story which took me out of the fantasy world and right back to reality. I read, watch and explore the world of 007 to get away from real life for a bit, not to be preached to and use the character and world of James Bond as a front.

I have read every Fleming and Fleming family approved book.
This might be great. But I'm not forking over $15.00 for a rush job of only 175 pages. Bad form, Old Chap. You have a legacy to consider.

Inconsistent Plot
The author seems more interested in conveying his personal political views than a good storyline.

Ian Fleming turning in his grave
Seems the author wishes to put his political views above all else, demonising anyone with a different view to the prevailing globalis narrative. He also seems determined to show off his knowledge of Hungarian architecture. Certainly not a recognisable James Bond in any way shape or form. One of the worst books I've ever read. Avoid.

Not a Fleming but very enjoyable
This was good, old school, but, very violent. Not a Fleming book but a very passable attempt at one.

Entertaining but lacks a bit of polish
Approved by the Fleming estate and with royalties going to the National Literacy Trust, this is a Bond novel written to commemorate the coronation. Charlie Higson is known for his YA series of young Bond books so you know the character is in safe hands. The plot rattles along at a decent pace and there are some nice Flemingesque touches. There are also a few subtle nods to other books and films. However, there are some signs that this has been written in a bit of a hurry, a bit more polish here and there wouldn’t have come amiss.Overall though a quick and entertaining read.

00 dear🤢
Waited in anticipation for Charlies first proper Bond and have realized why the original release date was delayed.Mr Higson has wasted his chance at writing a great Fleming Bond novel and instead has created a Cbeebies version of James Bond junior. His description of Bond himself is great. However, instead of a non stop exciting thriller in the Fleming mold ,we end up with a limp story interlaced with a cliched right wing terrorist group headed by a cardboard villain based on Nigel Farage and Jacob Reese Mogg.No fan of either men but they are not Blofeld or Gold finger.Anthony Horowitz did a fantastic job updating the literary Bond, this effort by Charlie is childish and totally unlike a Fleming novel.I want a fast paced thriller not a political pamphlet.OHMSS is one of Flemings best, sorry to say this does not belong on the same bookshelf. If Mr Horowitz is finished with Bond, please bring back Raymond Benson,he can really write a page turner.Sorry Charlie,it's a Dr No for me.

Good Bond/Poor production.
£12 for a book with no dust jacket, poor proof reading and spelling mistakes is a little annoying but it's a cracking 007 story, ideal as a souvenir of the coronation. Charlie Higson really needs to be allowed to do the next few Bond books. I know this one was done in a hurry but it certainly hits all the notes. It's a nice swipe at the mindset of committed brexiteers and swivel eyed loonies. Great fun and better than any of the more recent "modern" attempts, especially the pretty roapy Double or Nothing.
