Batman and Robin (2011-2015) Vol. 3: Death of the Family (Batman & Robin Volumes)

A story of Damian Wayne
This volume does an excellent job of sorting through what was a very messy event, Death of the Family. Patrick Gleason and Peter Tomasi delivered one of the most visceral and affecting chapters of the event with Damian and the Joker's heart to heart at the zoo. The scene is swimming with reds and blacks, and Gleason uses shadows to masterful effect. These issues lead perfectly into the conclusion to the event, which I personally felt was lacking, but won't hold against this volume, seeing as it is originally from a different series. The two remaining issues are the annual and issue 17. They delve deeper into the psyche of our characters, and looks at what their complex family has become. It is a touching, if not dysfunctional, type of love these characters have for each other, and Tomasi couldn't have written it any better.Nothing has changed from the last two volumes. Tomasi nails the tone of the series, and writes these characters better than anyone out there, while Gleason hits the visuals out of the park every time he puts pen to paper. Batman and Robin continues to be the masterfully written, flawlessly drawn jewel in the crown of DC's many bat series. There isn't really anything left to say other than you should absolutely own this book. An unquestionable buy.

A great book but not as a standalone
I love Peter Tomasi's Batman & Robin, I love his treatment of Damian Wayne as Robin and as the son of Batman, and dare I say it, better than Morrison. The run has been great and this one kicks off with one of the great stories between farther and son. It includes ai terrfying nightmare with Robin facing the Joker by HIMSELF. Speaking of nightmare, we get a visit into the minds of the Wayne Mannor residents. This book was great, I had fun jumping around this variety of stories. The main thing to understand though is that if you havent read volume 1 or 2 or both you really are doing a disservice to yourself. This trilogy is truly the masterpiece based on a giant story arc that is not based on mission or enemy sense but the building of relationship between a son and his father. It's well crafted touching story which breaks your heart at the notion of the eventual death of the family. Volume 3 is the conclusion of this buiilding an closing of a relationship. I think it could of included something stronger as far as the actual death and it happened, but the Death of the Family is still pulled off quite well

Just like the rest of the series this is a great continuation of the story. If you have read the first two, then this is definitely worth buying to read more into the story. The art is great and the story keeps the interest up while having a lot of action and exciting plot twists.Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. I don't want to go into the story and perhaps spoil it for someone, but the description given on this page is accurate and pretty complete for a background piece.

If You Want More of Scott Snyder's Joker
This book is essentially a tie-in for Batman: Death of the Family (by Scott Snyder). It even includes the conclusion of Death of the Family. This is a great series overall. It really focuses and Damian (Robin) and his complex relationship with his father (Batman). This particular volume has some great moments, particularly the interaction between Robin and the Joker. If you really liked the whole faceless Joker thing, then you'll love seeing the Joker in action here. This collects Batman and Robin #15-17, Batman #17, and Batman and Robin Annual #1

Too much
Tomasi tells a good story but the visuals are way too much. Totally unnecessary to have so much gore in this book. More Walking Dead than Batman and Robin. Better to have focused on their relationship and not faceless people and shock value visuals.

This is comic beauty
This Batman and Robin run by Tomasi has been my favorite ever made, it's artwork is beautiful, its story flows well, and I personally think Damian is a great Robin. Joker had me on the edge of my seat engulfed into the story even more so than Snyder's own amazing Death of the Family run in which this Novel is based around, similar to Batgirl's Death of the Family, Nightwings, Red Robins, etc. Trust me if you've liked the previous volumes, this one won't disappoint.

There are a lot of moments in this volume that gave me pause, but in a good way.I needed to read and re-read some panels and pages to make sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing.Tim Drake may be "my Robin" But Damian is growing on me as a character.

I enjoyed this book
I enjoyed this book. They feel a bit as if they back and forth. Like in each volume you feel like Batman & Robin understand each other better and get along & then the next volume it's back to somewhat not trusting each other.

A great story, great characters, and overall... a great read!
This graphic novel is a must have for any Batman (and/or Robin) fan. Most of the material within the book is present in the Joker: Death Of the Family graphic novel (A collection of all of the issues involved with the Death of the Family arc), however there are one or two issues which are exclusive to this volume. A great read and seeing as it is one of the Boy wonder's last adventures it's a much more emotional read than I would have thought! Buy it!

A great read
The previous batman and robin series was spectacular and was written by my favourite comic book author: Grant Morrison. The reason I read this was because it tied in to death of the family. I loved this, especially the annual, which really was about character development as well as a crime. Though the death of the family tie in wasn't as good as nightwing's or red robin's, it was still enjoyable. Buy this book today.

which is one of my all time favourite issues of anything
This volume includes the Batman & Robin Annual #1, which is one of my all time favourite issues of anything. Tomasi's run here is, frankly, better than Snyder's Batman
