Paul Klee's life and work
Its a nice book to own, very well illustrated. I do find the images of his work hard to relate to the text at times. I don't know whether its the translation of his letters or whether I am a bit dense (I have a 1st class degree in design so I don't think so) but I often read and reread passages and struggled to get any sense from them. I suspect its something to do with the German - English translation that loses something somehow. It does inform well on the various stages of his artistic development and the other artists / people who influenced his thinking and career.

Good introduction
Beautiful reproductions, concise text that appears to have been well translated from the German, interesting commentaries on paintings and useful excerpts from diaries.

Excellent biography and beautiful photography but I would have liked a little more of his philosophy on painting.

A living portrait of Klee and his work.
This 2011 publication is a first-rate Klee book, one of the best currently in print. The writing is one of the most detailed and well-written biographies of the painter I've ever read. The color plates are well-chosen and offer a large number of works not seen in print before, including a fair selection of his childhood and adolescent works. As always with the publisher Prestel, the book is of first-rate quality in all aspects. One of the best Klee books on my bookshelf.

Delightful Story of Klee's Life and Art
As a devoted fan of Klee's paintings, drawings and other art works, this was a good review of his life and his various periods of change as an artist. It is the basic story of an artist's life, with many excellent color reproductions with brief commentary on each. There are photos of Paul Klee as well which gives a sense of reading about a real person. The text covers the main works and follows the chronology of his life and art in a very clear prose that is easy to follow. This would make an excellent gift for someone who has not met Klee's paintings and someone who is interested in Swiss/German art. I didn't know some of the facts about Klee's various positions with art groups and found that I kept hoping for time to come back to each chapter as the narrative flows so well. Highly recommended as not a boring art book to put on the coffee table, but it could be there for someone to pick up and read.

Nice reproductions.
Some of this book is destroying my romantic ideas about Paul Klee, but I am enjoying turning him into an actual human with every page. Nice reproductions.

Small reproductions.
Why on earth publishers interlock text with the artwork reproductions making them small. The text is wiki quality, why then, sacrifice Klee's artwork?I cope by thinking that I bought a magazine with good paper. :(
