HTC design - hard to fault
You know what? it is WORTH ITI had this phone for nearly a year before I bought it. I liked the metal phone so much I did not want to cover it with anything....And the metal is so slippery I dropped it maybe 10 times before I gave in and bought thisIt is cheaper now than it was previously... and it is very impressive. The build quality is good. The cover sits perfectly closed and the front is rubbery in texture but the back is plastic. And with a mechanism I still cannot understand the cover does not eventually lose the automatic springiness with time and will by default close and stay closed easily (held with a tiny magnetic strip)The added touch activated features on the phone are as follows: double tap to 'wake screen' and double tap again to sleep - this shows the time and messages. A large symbol tells you what kind there is - the individual ones I have discovered so far are WhatsApp, email, missed calls, emails. You can also swipe to see the last 3 calls and select one to call by swiping on the case itself! No opening required so far... The great feature which they don't mention - you can control music from the front of the case. Pause/Next/Previous in a pixelated cartoon that you can swipe. This is thoughtful and useful - well done!In terms of aesthetics - the pixelated picture is very retro and cool and can be replaced by any photo you want (you can preview in the DotView App) and on holidays automatically changes to a fun cartoon (hearts on Valentine's, a pumpkin for Halloween etc). This is a very cool feature and I am amazed how many people are impressed with it!PS - blue works very well with gunmetal grey. Lots of compliments so far!I think a case for your phone is a big ask.... we pay a lot for something quite personal and with this phone it is because it is so good looking. To cover it up seems counter-intuitive. But this makes a powerful case (apologies!) in that it gets over the M8's slipperiness, is good looking and genuinely adds interesting and useful functionality from a tech perspective. At least it isn't boring!

Much better than some would have you believe!
I really don't understand some of the negative reviews about this case, so I thought I'd have my two penn'orth. The hard back of the case, which also covers the corners, and softer rubbery front seem to protect the phone very well. I have managed to drop it a few times with no ill effect, and the cover stays shut and keeps the screen safe. The case is easy to fit and remove - very handy as I have the car cradle as well. While the dot view idea is really a gimmick it is a wonderful gimmick, and means you can see who is calling as soon as you take the phone out of your pocket while it is still protected by the case, as well as seeing and cancelling notifications and alarms, or seeing the time, the temperature or whatever just by pressing the button. The cover also controls the phone's sleep mode, which is excellent, and despite what some other reviewers have said it is very easy and comfortable to have the cover folded behind the phone so it doesn't snap shut - it does sit at a slight angle when on the desk with the cover folded behind, but this can actually be quite handy depending on reflections. I can't imagine how some people claim to have had the case snap shut when they didn't want it to, it's so very simple to use.Apart from the feel of the back of the case, which isn't very pleasing and definitely doesn't shout "quality" like the phone itself does, the only other niggle I have at all is the range of colours that are available. I like purple, so while I wasn't convinced by the look of it on the website I decided to go for it anyway, but really it is more of a deep pink and clashes perfectly with any other purple things I have. All the colours are rather harsh, grey looks dull (again on screen, I haven't met one), black seems like giving in. Considering what a thing of beauty the phone is, it would be lovely to be able to show it off instead of hiding it quite so much, but the features of the case, including the protection, make it well worth having.
