Planes like a doddle
This is an affordable plane , blade needs sharpening. I really have no negative comments. After setup ,I tried it on oak and it performed beyond my expectations... see video attached

Set up needed but overall happy with the purchase!
This is a straight forward no nonsense Stanley plane however it does have its quirks! Let's start with the good.... Once set up properly this plane is an absolute dream to use, I have successfully managed to get whispy shavings from both long grain and end grain. Jointing boards takes minutes with proper technique and patience. The sole of the plane was also perfectly flat which was nice as I was dreading lapping such a large plane. The bad... This plane DOES NOT come set up. It took me about 3 hours of sharpening and fettling to get it to work as desired. The chipbreaker needs to be bent a little more to provide a more positive fit which then also requires grinding flat. None of the fittings were tight upon arrival so make sure you check the frog etc for tightness. The plane handle and tote are not the best but do work as needed however I had to slightly grind notches into the bottom of the tote to make it index correctly on the plane. The plane iron was quite rough but that wasn't to hard to grind and sharpen as it was already set to 25 degrees. Finally the plane didn't come in OEM packaging which although inst necessary would've been a nice touch. In conclusion... This is a good plane once set up correctly. I have yet to come across a plane at the price range that doesnt have issues. Just be prepared to put the leg work in to make it work correctly and you will end up with a keeper.

Great product
Took me some time to set up the plane properly. The blade needed sharpening for my needs. Extremely happy with the plane, best jointer I've owned so far.

Not correctly assembled; Tote smashed upon delivery; Difficult to believe this is made by Stanley
Not correctly assembled and Tote damaged upon delivery: - Bolts holding Frog in place were very loose. - Chip-breaker was fixed very high on Iron. - As a result, the Iron was extended a very long way through the mouth (luckily Iron was not damaged) - Bolts holding the Front Handle were very loose. - Bolts holding the Tote were very loose. - Plastic Tote was smashed at the front mounting bolt. The bolts had clearly not been fully torqued before shipping. The Plane had been removed from the OEM packaging and placed inside a large cardboard box. Box was too large to hold the plane, with no spacers to prevent the plane moving around in transit. This may have contributed to the Rear Grip being smashed. I haven't returned the plane because the loose bolts could be tightened, and I was already planning to replace the cheap plastic grips with more comfortable wooden grips.

Speedy delivery and better quality than expected. Hardly needed any tuning. Great plane.

Planes with ease ... Sharp ... Easy to square off edges for jointing with this tool
Beautifully big!

Solidly built
I'm a novice woodworker, so I would take my rating with a pinch of salt. It has rusted a little in the workshop/shed. Solid, easy to use, and long. A great companion to my new shallow angle plane.

Such a rough excuse for a Stanley 7
So dissapointed in this. Such a rough excuse for a proper Stanley 7 . Blade off centre and had to be permanently corrected with the lever thing. Plastic handle. Feels rough and not worth the money. Sent it back for refund.
