This little skimmer works really well. It's got a great design. It doesn't push the stuff around like a spoon will. The stuff you're trying to skim will actually get sucked into this skimmer... It's amazing! It's not the most heavy-duty utensil, but it does the job very well.

I received my skimmer this weekend and made a big pot of chicken broth soon thereafter. While I was initially disappointed that the handle is so short, I was very pleased with how easily I was able to skin away foam and grease. In retrospect, perhaps it would not work quite as well with a longer handle because you would have to grip it differently. Bottom line: I would highly recommend this very affordable product.

I make a lot of soups and this has come in handy. Good quality and easy to clean. Highly recommend.

The media could not be loaded.  I bought this for one reason: To filter the "scum" (Coagulated chicken proteins) that rise to the top during the initial stage of making Chicken Bone Broth. I was happy with this as it is finely perforated sheet metal and NOT the woven-wire type. Woven Wire will let larger particles through and it eventually destroys itself as the wires move against each other and are susceptible to being dislodged from their anchoring point. Super happy with my choice, wish I found this years ago.

Although marketed as a fat skimmer, I'm using it to make ricotta cheese. I needed a flat, fine-mesh sieve to gently lift the newly-formed curds from the whey. This item does the trick and as a bonus, is not a flimsy wire mesh as found in most strainers, but instead a metal plate containing finely-drilled holes. As long as it doesn't corrode, it should last a lifetime.Follow-up: I've produced multiple batches of ricotta and this skimmer spoon is functioning perfectly. Unlike wire mesh strainers, which clog with fine particles of curd, this spoon captures the curd but continues to strain whey throughout the harvest.
