God Talks: How to Have a Friendship with God (Even if You’ve Made a Million Mistakes)

Full disclosure, this is the first review we’ve ever written on Amazon (we usually keep our opinions to ourselves), but this book is something really special and we felt compelled to share our experience. We are currently in a season of tremendous challenge on multiple fronts, and we were wondering if God was hearing any of our prayers, because He has (seemingly) been silent so far, and we have been struggling to come up with answers and workable solutions but getting nowhere. We came across the title “God Talks” and took a chance on the Kindle, and boy, were we happy we did. Mr. Rush (what a great name for a fighter pilot, right?) has written something that has touched us on a deep level. His writing style is funny, poignant and honest, but more importantly the talking-to-God exercises work. They actually, really work! And the results have been immediate, tangible and an answer to prayer. God has indeed heard us in our time of need, He is finally speaking to us, and He’s used this book at the vehicle.We are looking to making God Talks a daily routine. We liked the Kindle so much we bought the paperback so we can dog ear the pages, highlight, underline and make it a true study book. We also got the Audible version so that we can listen to it while driving.In a nutshell, “God Talks” is about God revealing to you what lies you believe about yourself, your past, your future, your business, and so much more, and replacing those lies with truth. Truth that will unlock you and help you to move forward and see things clearly. Eliminate the thinking that has held you back, has hurt you, self-sabotaged you and weighed you down with unnecessary guilt.As for the book itself, it is well written and fun and easy to read. We laughed at his failing kindergarten story (who does that and admits it?), we cried at his parents’ divorce story, and we were amazed at the Evil-Knievel stories during his fighter pilot years and how he cheated death – time and time again. What makes it special is his willingness to “go there”, to admit mistakes and also be emotionally vulnerable. We loved the stories of Maia and Caroline and how God Talks literally transformed their lives. And the story of his youngest daughter dancing and skipping down Main Street USA at Disneyland is completely adorable.We highly recommend God Talks. There are a lot of inspiration/self-help books out there, but this one has the added benefit of being true and actually working. For us, it has been the right book at the right time, and we are very grateful to the author for putting together something so simple to do, but so profoundly impactful when done.Thank you Mr. Rush.

The magic of this book is actually YOU. That's what makes it such a powerful book, because you "are powerful beyond measure." That quote is from Marianne Williamson, from "Our Deepest Fear", which is in her book A Return To Love. The passage is so apropos that I'm going to share it here because it really encapsulates what God Talks is about:~~~Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.We ask ourselves who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.~~~And that's what this book does. It helps us to become liberated from the lies and the fear. Sometimes you don't realize you're afraid until you come face to face with what terrifies you. God Talks knocks the wind out of that fear by helping you face it and then re-instilling purpose in you. "Whatever happened, big or small, somewhere along the way, you lost the child. You lost the wonder. You lost the joy. You lost the dancing-down-Main-Street-with-no-filter child. You lost YOU. And now, it's time to get YOU back." Because "Your purpose is essential to the world, which means it's important to God" and "Healed people heal people". When you really understand that you're here for a purpose and that when you get healed you're going to change the world--without question--it ignites a fire in you to come back from whatever dead place you've been. That's how I felt as I read the book. I know a lot of us, even for a short time, have found ourselves in a dead place over the last couple years. It's nice to know there's a way to come back punching.What Ed Rush does is offer himself as a guide for the way back--a journey that he himself has been on for about a decade. Besides the main content of the book, Ed keeps you engaged with stories about his days as a fighter pilot and beyond, humorous moments like when he quips about how he'd rather be spending his afternoon (instead of facing some sort of personal extinction level threat), or his, admittedly goofy, but fun illustrations. I love how the book is written because it's very personable. One of the quotes I love is in Chapter 2. Ed writes, "I know that, much like Alice in Wonderland, you've believed up to six impossible things before breakfast, only to have those things sent through the shredder before lunch. But what if now, it's your time? What if your bright future begins today?" The book is written to you, sort of like reading a journal that someone wrote to you. And it's cheering you on. There are some serious and possibly painful topics that, by virtue of the subject matter, must be handled in the book. Ed does this with a succinct compassion that is in no way abrupt or patronizing; I think he handles this well.I have taken the time, after reading, to go through the Bonus Audios every day for a week. In a way it's crazy simple, yet so profound. Just taking the time to reflect on these things and dig the lies out of your thought processes and beliefs and jump unto the truth. It's so worth it to live in truth. It's very freeing. If you're a Bible reader you may know of the verse that says, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." And it's really true.God Talks is great content. Figure out the lies you're believing, let them go, and fully embrace the truth about YOU. I am going to be marinating on the book once again by listening to the audiobook. Cause it's worth a second go. And the great thing is that Ed recorded the audiobook himself. I enjoyed the Bonus Audios, so I think I will enjoy listening to him read the book.Do yourself a favor and give yourself a week or so to do some constructive reflection with the book. And then go be your awesome self!

Ed's book God Talks is relatable, helpful and entertaining. Finally, a book that explains how to do something, rather than just telling you why you should do something, and leaving you frustrated and none the wiser. God talks will transform and guide you into an encounter with God that will build your relationship and love for Him. Ed has provided you with all the tools you need to successfully meet with God and encounter His presence. And also, on the way you get to enjoy his pilot terminology and inside stories from his time flying fighter jets. Thanks, Ed, for putting your book out into the world, it has been a joy to read!
