Interesting book about trapping and what kind of equipments to use.
What I liked about this book was learning about all of different traps in different states. Some of the states have different rules and regulations that must be followed upon trapping fur animals due to the fact that they are damaging landowners land.In this book the author speaks about the 50 states however I like the most this states that I have included Florida, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Virginia, Vermont and many more. In New York State, it mentions that most of the state is wilderness outside of New York City. They can trap nuisance animals if causing damages. The animals that includes are chipmunks ,mice, moles ,porcupines rats. However, some animals can only be trapped with a license: weasels, gray squirrels, black squirrels, and fox squirrels. There are a few types of traps which include: Foothold traps, Body-Grip , Snares, Cage Traps. There is also a code of ethics to follow for those who practice trapping because its a privilege it can also be removed. The code of ethics include: 1. The furbearer and other wildlife in the area. 2. Landowners.3. The general public.4. Others who use the outdoors.5. Other trappers. The code of ethics also outlines thirteen rules for responsible trapping:1. Always obtain permission from landowners before you trap on their land.2. Don't set up your traps in an area where you can disturb farm animals.3. Check your traps daily, ideally in the early morning hours.4.Keep an accurate record of your trap locations. 5.Have a waterproof name and address tag on all your traps.6.Use as much of an animal as possible before getting rid of the remains. There are some more but I am going to leave at this number. In conclusion ,I would say that if you do practice the trapping in your state you must check which steps to follow; and what is considered as inhumane. If you would really love to know more about this, I would strongly recommend for you to read How to Trap, Skin & Tan Hides of Small Game Mammals: Complete Beginner’s Guide to Humane Trapping, Tanning Hides, Making Leather,Selling Pelts because it includes the 50 state trapping law by Philip Tsosie.

Has everything you need to know, better book organization needed
Philip Tsosie, author of How to Trap, Skin, & Tan Hides of Small Game Mammals, covers important and relevant things in this book. I like that Tsosie included a brief history of hunting and trapping animals and tanning. He also covers many animals that can be trapped, using relevant lures and baits, and a good time of year to trap them. Pretty much everything else is about trapping, skinning, and tanning furbearers, and the author shows that he’s knowledgeable.I think this book can be reorganized so it’s a better experience for readers who know nothing about trapping, skinning, and tanning furbearers. For instance, Tsosie writes about trapping as a privilege so trapping ethically and responsibly as well as following regulations are extremely important. That’s why I think this chapter should be placed as close to the beginning of the book as possible. If a novice doesn’t accept these responsibilities, they should stop reading. This chapter is also written like it’s supposed to be at the beginning of the book.Additionally, some chapters have terms and definitions that come after another chapter that contains those same terms without definitions, so this backwardness is not conducive for a beginner.Bouncing back and forth between trapping land animals vs. water animals is harder to follow than organizing the book to trap water animals (Tsosie suggests novices to start with water furbearers), and then land furbearers.

Through and easy to read.
Written in clean, clear English that's both easy to follow and extremely helpful. The book provides a step by step breakdown of the craft of trapping, tanning, making leather, and selling pelts for anyone--like me--that has no idea how to even begin. It was an interesting book not just as an beginner looking to learn the craft, but as someone looking to learn about the legal side of this world as well. Tsosie breaks down the legal realities of each state--what is allowed and what is not allowed, along with a host of other tid-bits as well. Putting the lessons I learn here into practice is something I will be very much looking forward to in the new year, and I will be buying a copy of this book for each of my buddies that have also begun to take up trapping. You can't go wrong. Clean, clear, informative, easy to read, and a pretty solid bet for the beginning trapper. Good luck out there!

Great way of go back to the roots of humanity!
I am an animal lover and even more than that, I love to make things from scratch. In this book the author genially teaches the reader how to use a part of animals that we actually do not play attention at all. Even if you are not into hunting, this is a very interesting guide of the animal world, handmade labor, and actually fun and profit all at the same time. I find amazing the many different ways we as human beings use our intelligence to make the world around a useful place for us. It has been like this since the beginning of times, and in these pages you will find why. A great form of coming back to our roots as humans!.

Very Informative
Most would consider me an amateur bush crafter, I’m at the beginning stage and I’m learning the ropes. I don't mind admitting it because I know that there is so much to learn and practice. It all starts with a good mentor and a great guidebook. This is the third book I picked up on the topic of trapping, which is of great interest to me. Since we live in Canada, some of the U.S. state laws that are mentioned in this book do not apply to us, but the rest of the book is full of great usable information that someone can use and learn by practicing the craft.Since taking an ancient history course in college, I knew trapping is one of the oldest methods of hunting, to me, it is a fascinating skill that we should all learn. Who knows when we may have the need to use this skill. I think this is one of the best beginner's guides on this very topic, if you have any interest in bush crafting, this is the book you should start with.
