Jullian ½-size Lightweight Easel - JB40

A well built piece of equipment. As an acrylic user I bought some polyethylene sheets for a palette and to act as a lid for the box. The palette supplied is for oil paint and acts as lid to keep supplies in place otherwise they fall out when the box is folded. I would have liked the metal lining to the box to have moveable partitions (3) as I take a number of paint tubes and mediums which don't quite fit the fixed compartments. I had to push down the middle partition. The half box is easyish to put up if you practice a few times before taking it out plein air. I did think of getting the full size as the box was bigger but think it would have been far too heavy for me to carry. The half box is ok as long as you edit what you take. I also take a tote bag for a bulkier stuff and sarnies!!! I gave the whole unit a couple of extra coats of Danish oil before I used it. One thing I would like as an accessory is a hanging pot to put brushes in when painting. I will have to find a longish bucket or something. A nice looking piece of kit that is better than using an easel and separate table out in the field. I would hope that metal or more lightweight boxes could be made in the future - but these wooden easels look so good!!

High quality, complete with all the bells and whistles. A work of art itself... have little doubt it will inspire great things. The compact size still provides adequate storage, yet can be adjusted to a wide range of heights and canvas sizes. A special "hats off" to the seller - Dubois Beaux Arts Paris. I searched high and low for a good quality easel that was light enough to carry on field trips to paint landscapes. This is the one! The construction is excellent, the components are all very durable and it is easy to assemble after the initial attempt. The service I received from the amazon seller was second to none and I am really very happy with my purchase.

Delivered as scheduled - well packaged - the JB40 is a far better quality than the 1/2 easel I've had for many years.Let's hope it improves my painting.

I already own a full french easel made by MABEF and the quality of this Julian easel is far better.
