London: The Illustrated History

My dad is 84 and has read so many books about everything throughout his life. He is very well read and knowledgeable as a result. I bought him this for Christmas and he has said and I quote "this is the best book I have ever had". I am not a huge book lover/ reader, however, before I wrapped it for him I had a glimpse. I can honestly say it's addictivley interesting. A superb mix of images along with easy reading facts on the real life in London through the ages. I will certainly be borrowing this back from dad!

Grab a cup of coffee relax in a comfortable chair, put your feet on the cat and enjoy reading this book.

This is a wonderful book and I cannot recommend it too highly for anyone interested in London and its history. It is beautifully illustrated and the the text is carefully subdivided by topic and is very well written involving multiple authors. I rank this as one of the best books I have ever purchased

This is not a deep analysis of London's history but short insights which might lead you to more detailed books about specific eras or subjects. But it is fascinating. I generally prefer words over images filling the pages of books, but here it's a bit like a museum guide book in places showing archeological finds for example, and with lots of clear and helpful maps. Loved it. One of those books I'll return to over and again.

I had this as a gift for myself then bought it for a friend. So much fantastic information, great to pick up and read a few pages at a time. Lovely size and great illustrations. Beautiful gift.

This item was bought for a gift for a friend. It is a beautiful journal, it makes a great refernece book for all ages with excellent clear illustrations. This book is detailed enough for a historian but well written enough to interest the man in the street. A really nice book that can be read cover to cover (would take some time), but also can be dipped into as required for reference. Lots of infomation and so good value for money.

I've been fascinated by the history of London for years and have read many wonderful books about its early and later development. Several years ago I stumbled across London: The Illustrated History in my favourite Melbourne bookshop, Readings.The illustrations and text are excellent and graphically portray the various stages of London from its beginnings. I often refer to it while reading English history or pursuing my genealogical research. My young grandson, who lives in London, visited us here in Australia last Easter and he couldn't put it down. He enjoyed it so much that I ordered a copy a copy for him and he was pleasantly surprised to receive it back home in London a couple of weeks.I highly recommend this book
