Tapo is the best and works great with Google
I’m replacing all my smart plugs with these because they are easy to program and work great. Don’t mock me for basically falling for “The Clapper.”

Great choice if you need to use the other wall outlet.
Plugged it in, set it up, and it worked immediately. No hub, no drama. The Matter support is great since it works with Alexa and Apple Home without juggling different apps. It’s small enough not to block the second outlet and feels well made. I’m using it for lights and it’s been reliable so far — schedules and voice commands respond quickly. Nothing fancy like energy tracking, but if you want a simple smart plug that doesn’t fight you, this one does the job.

Incredibly easy to set up and use for a non-tech person!
Amazonian Friends- Recently Belkin Wemo stopped the support for all of my smart switches. These were used more for home security than home automation. I had issues with these switches but they worked until January 31st. I was skeptical about trying another brand since I am not a teck-savy individual (still had an I phone 8 up till a month ago). After reading the reviews I decided to order 4X TP Link switches and 3X wall switches. I was initially confused about matter versus non-matter but decided on the Matter protocol. I do not use Alexis, google home etc etc. I simply down loaded the TP-Link Tapo app from the app store and nervously proceeded an attempt to connect to my new Tapo devices. WOW...Bam ! Easy Peezy ..connected with no issues, all without 14X phone calls to TP Link Tech support that would have been necessary with the Wemo devices. Thank you TP-Link Tapo for ease of set up and functionality without all the headaches that I previously experienced.

Pretty good but some kinks with "matter" technology
Needed a couple of smart plugs and saw there is a brand new technology called "matter" that allows smart devices to continue to function on the local network if the internet is down, and also can work across multiple smart services (alexa, google, etc.) which I found appealing, so I figured if buying new devices today I would be future proofing with matter. After plugging in, I made the mistake of following the included "quick start" instructions which had me setup the tapo app. Don't do this if you want to use matter, there is a separate card for matter instructions, and at least for alexa you have to setup devices in a specific order. To back out of that I hard reset the plug (hold power for 10 seconds) then followed TP-Link's Alexa setup instructions online and paired with an echo dot 5th gen, and that works great! Frankly I'm still confused if the tapo thing is matter or if it's a different protocol from the multiverse and how they work together. The instructions could be clear here on tapo vs. matter. It was a little challenging setting up the pairing with the Android phone (pixel 7) because while I was trying to scan the QR code in the Alexa app a matter device recurring pop-up kept taking over the screen, I think this is from Android but not sure, and assume it found it from bluetooth. I eventually managed to dismiss that and sneak in the scan for alexa before it came back, and I'm still not sure what would have happened had I tried to set it up via that method. Surprise! Matter doesn't actually let you control one service via another (e.g., control the device paired to Alexa from Google) unless you own a hub to pair for each service, and I don't own any Google nest stuff. After I created a code to use it from Google Home, it added the device successfully, but it said offline. So you cannot route Google Home controls on your phone through an echo or vice versa. Sad! So, I actually have a compatible SmartThings hub even though I don't want to control it from that, and I started going through the same steps to get a pairing code, etc. But, it never successfully paired because the app never got passed the screen that says "Preparing." Promising technology but still some work to do. The plug works great and as expected with Alexa routines, I'm very happy on that front. --- Update: I realize I am one of the first reviewers of these matter smart plugs, so I'm sure people are asking "What's a matter with SmartThings?" following this review. I'm happy to report that I saw a SmartThings app update come down on Android today, so on a hunch I tried to setup the plug again by getting a new code from Alexa, and sure enough this time it worked! It's an "Aeotec Smart Home Hub" for those interested.

Great replacement plugs... Be sure to use the Tapo App
Like others here, I had to replace the Wemo plugs and light switches and decided on the TP-Link matter smart plugs and Kaso matter light switches. I installed the Kaso matter light switches first... using the Kaso app and everything went great. Then I installed the TP-Link matter smart plugs and could not figure out why they wouldn't work with the Kaso App. Silly me. I finally realized that I had to use the Tapo App for both the Kaso switches and Tapo plugs. Once we had that sorted out (after much frustration), everything worked very well. These plugs and switches connected easily with Alexa and they are much quicker to respond than the old/discarded plugs. They have also not disconnected from Alexa like the old/discarded plugs used to do. Things to watch out for.... make sure to use the Tapo app and not the Kasa app to connect. Pros: Connected easily to the Tapo App and Alexa. Much quicker to respond to Alexa and in the App. With the Matter capability, I could just bypass the Tapo app if I wanted to. Got all my schedules set up and they have worked flawlessly since installing them in December 2025. Cons: Really can't think of any other than making sure you are using the Tapo App.

It works great, at a good price
Simple. Inexpensive. And also makes a very satisfying "click" noise when you turn it on. I use it to turn my doggy cam on and off. It's a great product!

Enjoy a smart home
Thoroughly enjoy having a “mostly” smart home with these plugs. They work pretty well, but can be difficult to set up at first. Sometimes they aren’t detected at all and you have to repeat the setup multiple times but eventually they work and are dependable.

Bought Smart Plug Mini to replace my Wemo Light plug. Seting up was very easy using the Tapo app. Now I can control all the plug devies in variouse very easily using apple shortcujsts and Siri with voice command. TP-Link have done a very nice job with the App and the Smart Plug Mini ... Highly recommend ... Matter compatability is questionable as my Apple Home App demanded that I use a Hub ...
