Q: What is a good way to cut this with minimal distortion to material?

I use regular tin snips (sheet metal shears) to cut 0.010 and 0.012. It's approximately 12mm wide. I frequently cut it in lengths 6mm or 9mm wide without any problem. A logo and thickness are imprinted every 6 inches. It polishes off with a Dremel polishing wheel. No reason to unless for cosmetic reasons.

Q: I have a specific use-will this stick to a magnet?

Yes it will stick to a magnet. I use it to touch off of parts on metal lathes and mills. I keep a piece attached to a magnet on the door of the machine I am running at the time. You do realize it is the thickness of a human hair right?

Q: Anyone know specifically what type of steel this is?

High carbon steel; the manufacturer states it's C1095.
