So Not Meant to Be (Cane Brothers, 2)

So meant to be read!
One of my absolute favorite reads from last year was Meghan Quinn's A Not So Meet Cute. So, when the author announced that she had a book for JP Cane and Kelsey Gardner, aka siblings of Hux and Lottie, respectively, from the aforementioned 2021 fave, well, I was as giddy as one could be. So Not Meant to Be is an enemies-to-lovers romance, although I think it would be fare to say that the "enemies" part was more on Kelsey's end than JP's, even if the guy made pushing her buttons seem like he was born to do it. While JP and Kelsey's story can be read independently of Hux and Lottie's, I'm seriously recommending you check the latter out, which shouldn't be much of a surprise since I'd just been saying how much I loved that darn book.JP Cane doesn't think that men and women can be friends and still work together. That shouldn't really be a problem since Kelsey Gardner doesn't think of him as a friend. She does, however, think JP's full of himself and too much of everything else. Too talkative, too handsome, and knows all too well how to get under her skin. To make matters worse, she know has to stay in the same penthouse as him for an extended period of time. So, not only do they work together, they now live together as well. Now, he's added being too flirty to the mix. While Kelsey may disagree about the whole being friends and working thing, she's positive that sleeping AND working together is a no-go. But that shouldn't be a problem since that'll never happen. Right?Ooh, but how JP gave Hux a run for his money as my favorite Meghan Quinn male main character. The Cane brothers are certainly a cut above the rest! I absolutely adored JP. If you check "swoon-worthy" in the dictionary, I wouldn't be surprised if it had him there as an example. Now, when it comes to Kelsey, I confess that it took a while for me to not just warm up to her, but also to deem her worthy of my, erm, our Jonah. Their back and forth was entertaining, but then when it comes to banter, Quinn knows her stuff. I laughed out loud more than once, and there were times where my heart ached for JP. Yep, I know, I know, but what can I say? I'm a wee bit--WHOLLY--hungover on all things JP, which is why So Not Meant to Be receives five stars!

great banter frenemies
This was a cute book full of banter, tension, and insecurities. With a perfect golden retriever playboy mmc and a FMC trying to gain self confidence while rising in the workplace. It was a fun sweet read.

Glad I opened my kindle app
With so many reading apps out there, I haven't opened my kindle app in a while. I was looking for something different and saw this MQ book. She's one of my go to authors, so I gave it a shot. Boy am I glad I did. It was a stark reminder why MQ is one of my favs. I agree with a few others that Kelsey was a bit annoying at times (could she break JP's heart a few more times) but overall it was a great read. I'm on an MQ binge now, catching up on all the ones I've missed. Went right into Untying the Knot, Oh, my heart!

Laugh of loud funny Romance
There I was reading in bed next to my husband, holding my mouth and nose, trying desperately not to laugh. That is how funny this story was to me. The romance was cute but was pretty predictable. The sex scenes were pretty good. Enemies to lovers. There were a few parts that just seemed weird and unnecessary. I would have liked her to have a different best friend other than her sister. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable sharing intimate things in such detail to a family members like Kelsey does.Cute, quickish read. 3.5 stars.

SAVE THE PIGEONS!
JP was hilarious! I really liked his characters and how the guy was the one falling hard and fighting his feelings. I think that Kelsey was a little hard on him, but their story was fun to read. While I enjoy a series and finding out pieces of previous characters stories, I thought Kelsey was a little obsessed with her sister, Lottie’s, story. We get it, “Hanley” has mind blowing sexcapades, but have some feelings for your sister. Thats why I gave it four stars and not five. Moving on to Breaker’s story, now.

LOVE JP AND KELSEY
When I saw this ARC show up on my kindle, I actually screamed. Every since reading A Not So Meet Cute last year, I’ve been wondering if we’d get more of the Cane brothers, and I’m so glad Meghan Quinn delivered. If you’ve read A Not So Meet Cute, then you’ve met Lottie’s sister, Kelsey, and Huxley’s brother, JP. So Not Meant to Be follows these two as they go head to head amidst combustible chemistry.I loved So Not Meant to Be 😭 I could not put this book down. It contains all the things I enjoy in a Meghan Quinn book: hilarious dialogue, palpable tension, relatable characters, and a love so sweet it makes my heart squeeze. Kelsey and JP are complete opposites. She’s organized and needs her routines, while JP thrives off of disorder. She’s looking for her soulmate, while he’s never been interested in settling down…until Kelsey.Quinn’s writing makes you feel like the characters are speaking to you directly, so it’s easy to feel connected to them and engaged in the story. I was immediately enamored by Kelsey and found her so easy to relate to. She loves love and wants nothing more than to find the kind that her sister and mother have. She’s a strong heroine with a big heart, but her struggle to find love has made her develop some insecurities. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Kelsey and JP resulted in some amazing banter that felt like watching a tennis match. These two can go back and forth with witty comebacks and insults like no other, and I absolutely ate it up. JP’s infatuated with Kelsey, but for obvious reasons, Kelsey has her guard up when it comes to him. I loved their smooth progression from enemies to friends to lovers as they get to really know one another. I also appreciated how the conflict in the book didn’t feel unnatural to the story and characters. Also, the crossovers in this book y’all…I just about died when we see Rowan and Bonnie (from my favorite MQ book, The Highland Fling) 😫 I was giddy with each podcast scene. I think I loved Kelsey and JP more than Lottie and Huxley because of how authentic their story was, and it was clear to see how head over heels JP was for Kelsey 🥹🧨 enemies to lovers🤍 forced proximity🧨 workplace romance🤍 billionaire hero🧨 slow burn
