Great movie, FLETCH!
The real Fletch, truly based on the book series, as it should be.The humor is still there but done more inline with the stories as written by the author.I liked the Chevy Chase movies, but JON HAMM, brings the book story to life as the author meant it!

The Stolen Paintings Case
As a freelance journalist with experience in the art world, Irwin Fletcher(Jon Hamm), has a traveling itinerary which is enthralling. Latitudes of the karma of Italian art collectors and the unflattering roughs of peeve-prone Boston Police detectives are exposed in frank conversations. Fletch's investigation, on behalf of Angela, or Andy(Lorenza Izzo), his Italian girlfriend, reveal unexpected locales for Fletch's provocation. For a brief time, Fletch is in Rome on a scooter. At street level we pass the Roman Coliseum and follow the main way navigating sharp traffic around precise squares and pristine concrete buildings. Then, in "Confess, Fletch", the camera is in Boston because Fletch is following up his search of who stole the Count Clementi Arbogastes de Grassi's paintings, who is Andy's father. Similarly here in Boston, we have a walking point of view of the Back Bay neighborhood on a grey day. Tiers of bleak shades meld into stone structures and sidings. The sky and landscape are a monoform chromatic non-color. Then we are at a yacht club for a clambake. Fletch wants to infiltrate one of the boats. Fletch is middle class debonair, and he is certainly not dumb or frivolous, but he himself is often the subject of some scandal or suspicion. In this mood riddled world Fletch is beset by new curiosities which lead to facts about the art theft. This allows Irwin Fletcher to coax humour in his laid-back way. The modern world of semi-moral, midstream, and sometimes slothful decor, impose upon Fletch awkward social situations which Fletch deflects with sarcastic rejoinders. As Fletch gets gathered up, being a target himself, the sides of this adventure compact as other people become a part of Fletch's casual interactions, and these things are what cause the clues of the case to be discovered, ultimately. The detectives who suspect Fletch of murder are Inspector Monroe(Roy Wood Jr.), and a junior detective named Griz, for Griselda,(Ayden Mayeri). "Confess, Fletch" is fun because even Fletch's antagonists are allowed to be right, sometimes. They are not overloaded with flaws for Fletch to wield unbridled wit or insight, like a marauding power broker.

The BEST Fletch movie!
As a fan of the book series, I’m glad that this entry in the film series showcases the characters much closer to the books. Not to mention that this movie has a constant barrage of funny moments: even after several viewings, I’m still catching little jokes I’d previously missed! Can’t recommend this movie enough!

Jon Hamm is awesome in this! I'd like to see a sequel, please
It's really well written and there are twists and turns in the plot that just glue you to your seat trying to figure out what's going to happen next. I haven't had a movie experience like this in a while... it felt like you were watching a fresh, modern version of a Columbo murder mystery for the first time. The characters were incredibly interesting and I was genuinely intrigued to find out what happens to each of them at the end of the movie.I watched the original Chevy Chase versions after seeing this movie. They are very different movies and you can't really compare it with this version. Hamm, please make another one of these movies! I honestly think you've found your comedic voice here... Your performance really opens up a whole new chapter in your career and it really showcases your range when placed alongside everything else you've done to date. Well done, sir!

Suffers from ‘Steven Soderbergh Syndrome’
'Steven Soderbergh Syndrome' is when a critically lauded indie-film director is hired to to give a genial, generally accepted white guy or woman (Jon Hamm, George Clooney, Channing Tatum, and Gina Carano for a hot second) a career boost and move them up to the A-list. They do this by putting them in a movie and framing them with expensive-looking cinematography and title sequences, highly stylized set and costume design, legit directing skills, and 1000-proof character actors who have years of theater and film experience and can make even a slice of white bread look good.(It ended up not working for Carano, but at that point, it wasn't her fault -- anyone who makes a 'fight' movie and makes a professional fighter like her look bad deserves the blame.)This is one of those movies. I was enticed by the Prime description that called this “delightful,” but based on this, I'll never believe Prime again. Wait, I just remembered that I paid $20 for this! I blocked it out. It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great to see Hamm walking around saying random things like we were all supposed to believe they were funny just because he was saying them.I feel like he's starting to become similar to John Mulaney in that all he does is make the rounds of his friends' talk shows and podcasts while they keep giving him high-profile jobs and audiences shriek with delight on command. Can Hamm actually act? I have no idea. At this point, he gets paid just for showing up.I'm a fan of Roy Wood Jr., so maybe I can be glad that he got some of my money, but I'm also starting to question his judgement, so who knows. He's done some really surprising things over the last few years -- like perform what looked like a paid advertisement for Taco Bell on The Daily Show -- and he talks a lot on his podcast these days about being on the come-up and going to exclusive VIP parties and clubs, so I hope he isn't losing his common sense.(I also heard his co-host 'Third' say what a good movie this was. Third, you know this movie was self-indulgent crap, so don't lie to pad Roy's ego. Just say you were glad he got his chance to climb the social ladder and leave it at that.)The more I think about it, I wish I could get a refund, but I guess I paid the film crew at least. Jobs jobs commerce industry. Pay for this film at your own risk!
