StronglightThreaded Steel Headset

Does not fit on my Dawes steel fork (crown race) with 1" top thread.
The item seems like really good quality, the thread of 25.4mm screws on to my fork on my Dawes which I bought in 1997. Handbuilt 531 Reynolds steel frame. The problem I had is that the crown race 'washer' is too small by just 0.6mm. The smaller one on the right is 26.4 and mine is 27mm. So waste of time/money. Will put up for sale. My lesson learned is to remove your forks and old bearings, measure acuratly and then buy what you need.

Good part
When searching for a 1" threaded headset with 26.4mm crown race I found there's not a lot of choice out there, particularly if you want black rather than silver. This feels like a good quality part(s) and fitting is fine but can't be done without the right tools i.e. headset press and crown race setter. My only issue is that this came with the caged bearings located within the cup races and could not be removed by hand. So my concern is how doable it will be to replace the bearings in the future without replacing the whole headset.

Good quality headset for the price
I used this headset on a 80s road bike rebuild and was really happy with the results. My theme was black and white and so naturally I wanted a black headset. Care and attention is required when tightening the headset if you don't want to mess up the black finish, it will show the metal underneath if you tighten with a spanner. To prevent that I covered my spanner in electrical tape which worked quite well.It seems to be great quality and the labeling is quite small and discreet which is an added bonus. I'd certainly recommend this headset.

Nicely made and descrete labelling which was a plus because I was making an all black simple looking fixie and didn't want too many badges.
