The Christmas Story

Okay.
Bought as a book to share with Year 2 children as an easy first telling of the Nativity. The story itself is a very basic retelling of the bible story, which included the basics necessary for children but lacks detail.I agree with another reviewer, it's a bit strange that essentially all illustrations have what is clearly snow falling. In Israel. Very confusing.Overall the book is fit for purpose but I will be on the look-out for a better one next year.

A retelling
The Christmas Story...by author/illustrator, Ian Beck. Simply retold with sufficient text to keep the interest, accompanied by beautiful illustrations. From the back cover:'High above the stable the night sky was filled with angels, who gave thanks to God and welcomed the new baby with their beautiful music.'Measuring around 26.5 cm x 22 cm, the pastel paperback covers open to 28 good quality shiny pages, beginning with:'The story of the birth of Jesus began in a garden in the city of Nazareth, where Mary and Joseph lived...'...and ending with:'And now, thousands of years later, at every Christmas we remember the marvellous story of how Jesus was born.'

True meaning of Xmas
I bought this story for my 3 year old son because we're religious and I wanted him to understand Xmas wasn't just all about presents and a man with a white beard! It's a great story, which begins with the angel Gabriel telling Mary she will give birth to Jesus. The pictures are lovely and there aren't too many words for toddlers and young children.
